This is old news from 2017, but sad news nonetheless, yeah. Regarding background art studios, there's actually a fair few of them (do note that some of these are just art departments of existing companies, though): https://anidb.net/tag/534

4)Revolutionary Girl Utena
3)Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)
2)The Rose of Versailles
1) Berserk (1997)

Btw, no need to mention Cory in the House, It's such a good anime that there is just no need to state the obvious.

Death Note
Higurashi
Basilisk
Dragon Ball Z
Samurai Champloo.

I feel as though my favourites would be considered very entry-level and pedestrian by others. That is fine. I still enjoy other anime like Serial Experiments Lain, Darker Than Black, Lodoss War, Rozen Maiden, etc, which are a little more 'obscure'. The important thing that I realised is to be earnest and have fun.

Honourable mentions: Haruhi, Lucky Star, Yuru Yuri.

Watch Card Captor Sakura if you haven't already.
It's more serious than the shows you listed but it's one of the best magical girl shows out there.

Also, it's not 100% Mahou Shoujo but, you'd probably like Magical Pokaan.

We all know dubs are shit, but have you ever wondered what exactly makes them so bad?
I heard something recently with a bad dub, a short scene with a guy trying(but not very hard) to sound angry and I noticed something. It wasn't just how he was saying his lines, but the lines themselves just seemed really awkward. I always thought the problem was localizers hiring cheap unskilled voice actors who have no passion for the stuff they work on. Now I think that's only half of it, with the other half being poor translations that don't fit what English speakers would actually say. I think there's just no effort at all put into trying to make the dialog sound natural.
It then reminded me of a conversation I had with someone who insisted P&SG had a great dub, with their reasoning being that the characters actually swear. Then I got to thinking, anime that are said to have good dubs, like samurai pizza cat and ghost stories, both take some extreme liberties with the source material, allowing the voice actors to go nuts.
It got me to thinking. Can dubs actually be good if the translations become much less literal? Should they be? or do you think that's too offensive to the source material, and translations should be kept as closely as possible to the original meaning regardless of how weird it might sound in another language? Do you think the same holds true for subs as well?

Surely the pinnacle of the internet: fox businesses providing their commentary on the ways AI translations of Japanese media will upset the liberal order, with the lead image featuring localizations of an ecchi anime. If we add in blockchain in there we'll have summed up the decade.

Answering myself, official subs for this seem perfectly fine. Shame since the typesetting effort for the DDY release seemed quite intricate (of course one can always trivially mix/match but it doesn't seem worth the effort).

>どうですかヤンス?
>かっこいいですかヤンス?
Here Shouta in the next episode preview imitates how Takiya speaks when Takiya goes into otaku mode, but I think the way Shouta imitates Takiya might be off. I would expect Takiya to say, 「どうでヤンスか?」「かっこいいでヤンスか?」 instead. With that in mind, I can sort of see what DDY might have been going for, but I don't find it to be a very good fit. On the other hand, CR's English script doesn't seem to bring across the difference in Takiya's otaku-mode speech at all.
>> No. 36793 [Edit]
>>36792
Thank you for responding. To confirm, what does the ヤンス here mean? Dictionary says やんす is a dialectical/archaic form of "to be", which would fit with how you described it should have been used. What's the association between that and otaku though?

I give them credit for not completely reversing everything, and instead the world is a result of a compromise of sorts. (One I would like to live in.) That said, feels like a story that needed more episodes, as usual.

Well it's what they said they would do. A bit disappointed that the prediction of >>37690 basically turned out to be true though, and there wasn't any further meta-twist that warranted this side-plot. Although the most obvious twist of having that entire abduction plot be part of the game they were making would be quite clichéd..

Konoha is infinitely cheerful, I wouldn't be able to trust Toya again after those events.
