So, I'm starting to teach myself the guitar. What are some anime/game tunes that are easy to play and have learning materials available?

Hi OP, I'm not sure if you have watched Angel Beats or not, but you can give 'My Song' sang by GDM (a band from the anime) a try. It's pretty easy, the chords are simple too. You can try figuring out the strumming patterns yourself, it's not so difficult.

http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/m/misc_unsigned_bands/girls_dead_monster_-_my_song_crd.htm

I've also attached a video of the guitar cover of the song. Hope this helps.

I have another one for you, it's based on a game called Gitaroo Man. I've embedded it for you, it has some pretty sweet tunes. It's also great for beginners. Try figuring out yourself on how to read the tabs.

There's 2 different tabs for this one, I suggest you pick Guitar 1's tabs for it. Good luck practicing it! And do not give up!
>> No. 1140 [Edit]
Look up a program called Guitar Pro. You can import MIDIs (like from vgmusic.com) to learn how to play songs.

The MIDIs aren't written for guitar tabs normally, so you have to fiddle around with them a little to make them playable. And the people making them get them wrong sometimes. But it's a hell of a lot better than nothing if you can't learn by ear yet.

Hello.
This is going to be a jazz thread. Since this is a nice, slow board and I have a not so nice, slow connection, I will start by uploading one album a day. I will start by posting what could be considered 'essential' albums, and will go from there. Hopefully it will introduce some new fans to the genre.

I'm working my way through your new uploads and am thoroughly enjoying them. Thank you.

Currently listening to Gershwin Performs Gershwin - Rare Recordings 1931-1935. The adverts for laxative chewing gum are great.

I did a double take when I heard that advert for the first time. Laughed so hard. I love Gershwin so much. Also, that's only about, maybe one fifth of the new stuff I had to upload, so expect even more over the next couple of days, since I have a week off.
For old times sake:

James Whiting - Burbank

I can guarantee that you won't find this anywhere else (for free) on the internet and this one is definitely the only FLAC rip. James is a vibraphonist from my home city of Brisbane who graduated from my university. This is his first album, and you would think he's been at this for years if you didn't know otherwise. His playing is not overdone like, say, Bobby Hutcherson on the track 'Head Start', but rather, James' playing comes across as refined. Like he has put thought into every note he's striking. To compare him to another jazz artist, maybe Bill Evans. That refined 'Waltz for Debby' kind of sound that I love. I've worked with James a few times myself and I can say that his playing on this album is just as good (if not a little worse!) in person. It's terrifying, man. Another person to note is Sam Anning, the Double Bass player on this record. He is probably one of my favorite Australian jazz bassists and you can see why. His tone is raw and it really contrasts with James' vibes.
Just having you guys enjoy this would be worth the $20 I paid for the CD. I should have gotten him to sign it...

On a side note: I've only just noticed how much traffic these downloads are getting. My Idle Moments .rar has had 399 downloads and the material I just put up has already got 6+ downloads as well. It feels good to give to a community.

I never really paid any attention to jazz and this thread has helped me to find some nice energetic jazz that I like quite a bit, thank you very much!

So far I like David Brubeck and Stanton Moore a lot.

For example, taking this song

most of the music I listen to fits into this category but I always thought this song here was an amazing example of sampling. and the video is about sampling as well.

Atmosphere (Hip hop) and some other members of the rhymesayers label use sampling in a bit of their songs, though that isn't the main focus in some. Really it's more in Atmosphere's older songs.

I found this interesting:
http://mp3ornot.com/index.php

It basically quizzes you if you can tell the difference between a 128 kbps and 320 kbps mp3. They actually updated it since I last checked; the old version was obvious, but I got this one wrong. It's hard to tell if something is distorted if the song itself is distorted.

I guessed every one of them wrong.
I didn't know my hearing sucked so bad.
>> No. 854 [Edit]
Got the 3 songs right the first 3 times, but started getting them wrong after that. The recording quality on these songs probably has a lot more to do with the bitrates being nearly indistinguishable more than the bitrates themselves.

I know, cliche, but I looked and don't think this thread has been created yet. It might have been on the old tohno-chan but I don't remember.

So, What is your favourite song, or songs if you can't choose just one? I realize this type of thing changes over time but I think it would be interesting to share our current favourites...

Mine is, the very appropriately named, John Coltrane version of 'My Favorite Things'. I don't listen to it as often as I should but when I do I'm always blown away, I have to stop whatever it is that I'm doing, listen, and let myself get lost in the music... It's the only piece of music I find to be so powerful.

The song was too big to post, so here is the youtube videos:

Probably this one:

I think I reached enlightenment when I saw it performed live.

Pretty much any Alphazone song, but this one is their most inventive, and just the most awesome. Their remix of "Nish - Sagittarius" is what got me into making trance music in the first place.

Why did they have to disappear? ;_________;

I can go on, literally forever, about this song. It's the perfect song for me. I can't comment on the music or anything. All I can really say is that NG really outdid themselves with this one. On the studio recording, it's like all of the variables were perfectly aligned, and this song was the result. It captures every beautiful, sentimental feeling I've felt in it's melodies. This is the song that made Number Girl my favorite band of all time.

I chose to post a live version, rather than the studio version, because Mukai pulls out an awesome solo towards the end in this one.

Do you guys have a .mp3 of this? Does not have to be a concert recording necessarily, just the regular song. (Not embedding because I get an error.)

I really like it. I was never big on Explosions in the Sky - All of their songs of sounded the same to me. This is great, though. It reminds me of Mogwai, just with more shoegaze influence.
