Half-Life 2, the sequel to Half-Life, is a first-person shooter video game and a signature title in the Half-Life series. It is singleplayer, story-driven, science fiction, and linear. Developed by Valve Corporation, it was initially released on November 16, 2004, following a protracted five-year, $40 million development cycle, during which a substantial part of the project was leaked and distributed on the internet.

The game was developed alongside Source and Steam. It introduced the game engine and, because of Steam, is the first video game to require online product activation.

Like its predecessor, Half Life 2 was met with near-unanimous critical acclaim. It was praised for its advanced physics, animation, sound, AI, graphics, and narrative. The game won 39 "Game of the Year" awards, and several publications have named it "Game of the Decade". Over 6.5 million copies of Half-Life 2 were sold at retail by December 3, 2008, making it a best selling PC game. This figure does not include the significant number of sales through Steam.

Hard to say which game is my favorite. The one I spent the most time with was probably Morrowind, an RPG where you can pretty much do whatever the heck you want.

The best story I've ever seen in a game was told by the Legacy of Kain series of action-adventure games. You play as the vampire lord Kain, who travels through time, conquers the world and enslaves humanity.

For the social factor, I've had the most multiplayer fun playing Street Fighter 2 and Tekken.

Free, beautiful, atmospheric, easy shoot-em up.
The only downside is that it should be about three times longer.

I've been on a Blazblue bing for the past year and a half, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite game. I went through the same thing with Touhou before that too.
The most memorable game of my childhood was Saga Frontier, and while I had excessive trouble reading through, i still played the hell out of.
I've also really enjoyed the DMC series, and Bayonetta blew that series out of the water in the end.
I can't really settle on one game to be my favorite. I guess if I could get a mix of all those games.

I'm not sure, but it has to be something from Nintendo.

I'm between Donkey Kong Country 2, Majora's Mask, or Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Final Fantasy 6, or as it was called back in the day, Final Fantasy 3.

I think what sets it apart the most is the mechanics. Each character has their own personalized skill for battle, which adds a lot of personality to the game. What always stood out the most for me was the martial artist Sabin, whose "Blitz" skill requires you to input button sequences like you'd be doing if you were playing a Street Fighter 2 type game.

That's the example most outside of the norm for an RPG, but each character has a skill that fits their theme and personality while providing a lot of variety in how you fight. Cyan, the samurai, meditates while preparing his sword techniques. Edgar, king of an industrialized country, uses "Tools" like a rapid-fire crossbow or a chainsaw. Gau, raised by wild animals, turns "wild" and uncontrollable while adopting the skill set of a particular enemy.

The storyline did something that felt fresh for an RPG and still seems to have not been replicated much -- the villain wins halfway through the game, destroying the world, scattering and demoralizing the heroes and forcing one of them to lead an effort to reorganize the party. Most of the characters then may (in some cases must) go through a personal ordeal to re-inspire themselves and unlock their true potential (or just upgrade the party's equipment with legendary items).

The soundtrack is a classic, many of the characters having their own distinct, memorable themes, and the whole thing is topped off by the grand 4-part final battle theme, "Dancing Mad", which you can hear as rearranged in prog-metal form in the youtube video I'm embedding (with an inclusion of One-Winged Angel from FF7).

The graphics are fantastic for a 16-bit game, and the visual style uses them well.

The Runaway series. It's more of a preference for the adventure genres.

Brian Basco sets off from New York to California, but plans to make a quick stop on his way there to pick up a book at a bookstore. On the way there, he just avoids running over a fleeing girl who then blacks out. Brian takes her to the hospital and finds out that her name is Gina Timmins and that she witnessed a Mafia murder. He saves her from the killers, but now he also has to run away.

The art was unique and superb (compared to the year it was released), and the plot was refreshingly intriguing. Nevertheless, it holds high sentimental value to me, and the third installment was the last game I played despite being out of touch with the gaming scene for years.

FF6 is great. It's a shame that it doesn't get that much hype, whereas crap like FF7 gets several hundred expansions. Not to say I hate it (I actually enjoy it quite a bit), but FF6 is clearly better by several hundred miles.

I played the first 10 FF but 4 (never finished it) and 3 (because DS).
And I have to say, 6 was meh. Yeah, characters, yeah, story, but in fact it was the only FF I didn't play the extra dungeons and stuff.

I just killed the final boss and forgot about everything. Not a bad game, just... not my favorite.

I would say 8>1>9>6 and etc.

Played Snake Eater to death, then Subsistence came out and I played it even more. Did some speed runs, got Foxhound ranking and unlocked everything, which was fun.

I just beat MGS3 for the first time, actually. It's probably one of the best games I played in awhile, if not ever. You just get so into it. The story is fun enough to provide a lot of, "Oh shit!" moments, and the gameplay fixes what I disliked about the first two, and adds a lot of cool, in-depth aspects that I love - The injury system, having to keep your stamina up. And the final boss fight was so damn cool. I loved it when the theme kicked in towards the end. It's such a bad-ass game, and if not my favorite, my second-favorite for sure.

I think I've too many "favorite games" to list. Final Fantasy Tactics (my childhood), The Legend of Dragoon, Majora's Mask, Final Fantasy VIII. And now, MGS3, I guess, haha.

I'd have to say, though, my favorite of all time if FFT. The remake was top-notch, and kept exactly what I wanted, while removing all of the things that even my boyhood self found stupid. There were so many damn translation errors, but it was still totally enjoyable to me. Tactics Ogre just doesn't have the same amount of appeal to me for some reason.

>> No. 5985 [Edit]
I would have liked Mirror's Edge more if it were about twice as long and the cutscenes were from a first person perspective like the rest of the game. What's sad is that if they ever make another it will probably have a huge focus on gunplay, because the main complaint 13 year olds had with it (aside from "u play as a girl!!") was that there wasn't enough generic shooting. It's like they totally missed the point

Shadow of the Colossus as far as artsy games are concerned. The free roam feel of the game is where it's at because basically All areas of world are seamlessly mapped, and it seems to replicate a natural world unlike any other game. No NPCs and towns to deal with, just ancient runes. The entire game is a living painting, and it is hard to make out landscapes and how to navigate them until you continue closer. Getting lost is actually enjoyable and part of exploration, you can even get lost in small closed areas. It just feel so real compared to any other game environment design, and reminds me the most of real world exploring. Also the entire way the game was designed feel exactly like a dream, it's like what is going on is presently taking place is timeless or in the past because its an ancient forgotten land with no one around. The giant boss battles are epic and unique, but they can get tedious and aren't really the highlight for me. Environmental design seems to always get overlooked in games, in replace with interactivity, AI, physics, graphics processing which don't equate as heavily to realism, as the at the moment experience of just walking around a place. It's the very first step of creating a game.

Arkham Knight has the original studio back, so it's a good sign that it's going to be good.

Lost Odyssey. I'm not a JRPG fan, more like an anti-fan. But the character and story development compensated for any bias, in spades. The short stories (A Thousand Years of Dreams) are something special.

I am absolutely shocked at how much I'm enjoying Neptunia rebirth. They took one of the worst PS3 titles in existence and remade it into one of the best vita games available.

Infinity Blade II on iOS. Late to the party but it has the same gameplay while offering more choices of loot.
Hard mode: only spend attributes on increasing damage.

The first one did have the best writing and world setting.
If Re;Birth is just a remake then of course it would become the best.

That's kind of a though question for me, but probably TF2.

Max Payne is a close second though. I've been attempting to finish New York Minute Hardcore in Max Payne 3 for the past few days. It's actually the most fun I've had playing a game in a while.

I gave that up when I went too fast and a door didn't load to let me through.

Super Mario Galaxy.
It had so much creativity poured into it, the cinematic feel of the cutscenes was amazing to me, the music was simply beautiful, and at the end of it all it was fun to play too. Running and jumping through space was so enjoyable to me and I loved messing around with gravity and seeing what I could do, trying to make Mario orbit around smaller celestial bodies with a long jump was so funny to watch when I got it right.

It also featured one of my two favorite characters from all of fictional media.

I didn't really like the sequel quite as much simply because it had Mario going through 2D sidescrolling and the story didn't feel like it was as important, like the game didn't take itself seriously and I missed that with the first game. The main hub was kind of boring too, not a whole lot to explore and see. Just a single planet rather than the various sections of the observatory that I liked to look at.

I loved both Mario Galaxys but they are too easy and I honestly cant think of a way to make them harder without adding in cheap deaths.
I'd love if they made a multiplayer game where you have to run through all the levels against another player with rewards for exploiting gravity. The most fun part of Mario Galaxy is definitely messing around with the different gravities
