METAL THREAD BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE

This one is Underwatermoon by an artist called Winterhorde, who call themselves 'Melodic Extreme Metal' which is about right because i've never heard anything quite like them.

The whole album is absolutely fantastic, its easily one of my favorites.

I never was much of a Megadeth guy but a week or so ago I downloaded a batch of their albums and I'm slowly going through it. My opinion of them hasn't changed much but holy shit, I can't get this bass line out of my head. I literally couldn't sleep last night.

I love how every single metal band claims they're doing something so radically different they just invented a whole new genre. That pic doesn't even include all the established genre terms (e.g. Viking Metal is missing) and certainly not the ones that haven't caught on beyond one band's fanbase (like the term "Tanzmetal" that Rammstein came up with)

I posted it and yeah, it's pretty incomplete. I found it on /mu/ a while back. The only Genre's I listen to myself are labeled under power/thrash/speed/Traditional. They all strung together pretty well on the chart, so I just took it that the rest of the chart was accurate as well. I'm sure if you listen to more genre's you could see where the list has errors, like you have. Plenty of bands list themselves as new genre's by only small changes that build on later. Gamma Ray is set under Power metal on that list, but would fit traditional much better, although the band did come after Helloween, which is considered one of the main founders of power metal (Both have Hansen on guitar). Symphony X is a good midpoint between what they call neoclassical and Power metal there too. There are sections where the list is either too broad, or too specific. Very interesting to see where bands like Raphsody of fire or Dragonforce would fit on the list. It could use some work, and it would be great if you could contribute to it.

I can't quite believe this is the band the ex-members from Axamenta formed.
The vocals are my greatest pet peeve, but overall it just seems way less impressive than the album teasers, released before they found a vocalist IIRC(see http://hecamefromthesun.com/ ).

This new Vildhjarta EP is fucking ridiculous.
I've hated the vocals on their other releases, and while I don't like them on this one either they are thankfully mixed much lower this time around. Daniel Bergstrom is probably my favorite metal guitarist at this point, too; I love technical riffing but never cared much for shredding.

Found those guys on youtube related videos and thought it would either be another tasteless metalcore band that wants to be technical or another djentfest that is very technical but unbearably metalcore-ish.
I'm actually quite pleased. Their vocalist knows how to put a decent scream but works pretty well on clean vocals too(not too bratty, like Tesseract's or *sigh* Cynic's vocalists).
They are an incredibly fun listen but also quite demanding. I feel like I went through a whole album when listening a single song of theirs.

This is the story of Milunka Savić that inspired our song Lady of the Dark. Milunka Savić was a Serbian woman who took her brother’s place in the army. Partly disguised as a man, she would eventually be among the most decorated soldiers of WW1.
