METAL THREAD BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE This one is Underwatermoon by an artist called Winterhorde, who call themselves 'Melodic Extreme Metal' which is about right because i've never heard anything quite like them. The whole album is absolutely fantastic, its easily one of my favorites. http://www.mediafire.com/?k1tk7u8ese8t5ax
Have you heard Borknagar? The song you linked really reminds me of them.
Also, I'm a sucker for Orphaned Land's recent stuff.
Posting metal.
I like technical death metal.

Metal thread? Nice. If you haven't already, listen to Ulver's Bergtatt album. It is bloody brilliant.
French black metal. >>879 Kinda reminds me of Peste Noire for some reason.

Music on the high seas for you scurvy dogs.
Solefald's new album is amazing.
I never was much of a Megadeth guy but a week or so ago I downloaded a batch of their albums and I'm slowly going through it. My opinion of them hasn't changed much but holy shit, I can't get this bass line out of my head. I literally couldn't sleep last night.
Psycroptic
I've been listening to The Foreshadowing a lot recently.
Doesn't top their first album but this is still pretty good.
Uploading some Soreption. http://www.mediafire.com/?4tripc3ze72n9
Classic instrumental melodic metal.
Godflesh. Legendary.
Australian black metal.
No power metal?
It's dangerous to go alone, take this.
>>867 ICS Vortex is returning to Borknagar as a fulltime singer along Vintersorg. And he is doing more Arcturus and Lamented Souls, his getting fired from Dimmu Borgir is turning out totally awesome.
classic japanese black metal
Gallery of Suicide is one of Cannibal Corpse's most underrated albums, in my opinion. The title track is fucking brilliant.
>>901 I love how every single metal band claims they're doing something so radically different they just invented a whole new genre. That pic doesn't even include all the established genre terms (e.g. Viking Metal is missing) and certainly not the ones that haven't caught on beyond one band's fanbase (like the term "Tanzmetal" that Rammstein came up with)
>>928 I posted it and yeah, it's pretty incomplete. I found it on /mu/ a while back. The only Genre's I listen to myself are labeled under power/thrash/speed/Traditional. They all strung together pretty well on the chart, so I just took it that the rest of the chart was accurate as well. I'm sure if you listen to more genre's you could see where the list has errors, like you have. Plenty of bands list themselves as new genre's by only small changes that build on later. Gamma Ray is set under Power metal on that list, but would fit traditional much better, although the band did come after Helloween, which is considered one of the main founders of power metal (Both have Hansen on guitar). Symphony X is a good midpoint between what they call neoclassical and Power metal there too. There are sections where the list is either too broad, or too specific. Very interesting to see where bands like Raphsody of fire or Dragonforce would fit on the list. It could use some work, and it would be great if you could contribute to it.
Venom
Posting some metal.

Amogh Symphony, very proggy instrumental stuff, some electronic influences.

Agalloch is one of my favourite bands. This is one of their many good songs.
>>1022 Agalloch is fantastic. Unrelated, a very industrial/electronic metal band from Turkey: Seth.ect
new band, just released their first album few weeks ago. but I instantly fell in love with this song.
New Black Dahlia Murder leaked yesterday, but this is still my favorite song/album. Amazing song title.
Also, TBDM has the most hilarious music videos. Fuck yeah, bowling metal!Post edited on 11th Jun 2011, 10:35pm
>>1063 Fuck yeah Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I didn't realize the album's release date was so close, and it's outright leak is just splendid. Have some Electric Wizard.
>>1065 >Electric Wizard
Should have posted this a long time ago. My favorite metal band.
An old favourite.
If only all power could be this good.
One of the best.
Holy shit they did a cover of this.
This is probably the best combination of electronic/dance music and metal that I've heard. Not amazing, just the best so far. Then again, I can't think of any other band that does that offhand. . .
I remember hearing this when I was just getting into metal. Genuinely startled me. Vocals aren't as good as I remembered them, but still a great song.
.
One of my favorite.
Posting bands I didn't see.

Amoral Old stuff is better. New singer changed the band entirely.
A shame the band ended after this album. That thing had awesome backstory, awesome production, even awesome Daniel Gildenlöw singing a whole song for them.Post edited on 30th Aug 2011, 9:28am
To nobody's surprise Mastodon's new album is great. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=smuv31cl
No Wintersun in this thread. I'll fix it. Also here's a song from their next album, that has been in production for 6 years. (crappy live recording sorry) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cet3U38l3WI
Moonsorrow.
A great song by Thyrfing
discovery of the day
God Macabre
Cirith Ungol
Pagan Altar

Axamenta. This is not quite the best song in the album, but it's the only non-instrumental one that fits the file size limit.
Yakuza
Eru
Frostmoon Eclipse
Falconer.

this is crust so I guess this is the appropiate thread to post on. Skitsystem-Skitliv http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64pILspkajQ
I can't quite believe this is the band the ex-members from Axamenta formed. The vocals are my greatest pet peeve, but overall it just seems way less impressive than the album teasers, released before they found a vocalist IIRC(see http://hecamefromthesun.com/ ).
This new Vildhjarta EP is fucking ridiculous. I've hated the vocals on their other releases, and while I don't like them on this one either they are thankfully mixed much lower this time around. Daniel Bergstrom is probably my favorite metal guitarist at this point, too; I love technical riffing but never cared much for shredding.
And Masvidal does it again. New Cynic sounds like anything but Cynic, and I quite like it. Except the part about plants inventing animals, that made me chuckle.
>>1848 Ha, I wasn't expecting the line to actually BE "animals are something invented by plants". Incredible song though, Cynic has been blowing my mind since you posted them in that other thread.
Posting a classic by In Flames
Listening lots of Isis lately. I've gotten to know them quite accidentally when searching for info on the terrorist group, gotta thank them for that.
>>1735 That music video.
Spiral Architect is so technicool it hurts and the vocalist is so terribad he's good. Weirdest shit I've heard in a while.
I was searching for hungarian bands because I wanted to get a better feel of the language's sounds. So, yeah, beautiful language.
Why is everything so melodic on this board?
(Thrash) Thrash will always be the riff kings
Found those guys on youtube related videos and thought it would either be another tasteless metalcore band that wants to be technical or another djentfest that is very technical but unbearably metalcore-ish. I'm actually quite pleased. Their vocalist knows how to put a decent scream but works pretty well on clean vocals too(not too bratty, like Tesseract's or *sigh* Cynic's vocalists). They are an incredibly fun listen but also quite demanding. I feel like I went through a whole album when listening a single song of theirs.
I've been listening to Yngwie Malmsteens first 5 albums, so far Eclipse has been my favorite.

This is the story of Milunka Savić that inspired our song Lady of the Dark. Milunka Savić was a Serbian woman who took her brother’s place in the army. Partly disguised as a man, she would eventually be among the most decorated soldiers of WW1. https://youtu.be/3AsRfcrZeUE?t=194
