Probably an old meme, but to me it's new.
I cried happy tears on this one. Many times.

Icelandic alternative band, shit's pretty good.
The ending is the best part~
Hirasawa Susumu is a genius.
>>342 Damn, that song is amazing and the ending is indeed fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
>>364 No problem, Infected Mushroom is definitely one of my favourite psychedelic bands. This piece I'm currently listening to is based on The Raven, as written by Edgar Alan Poe. It's a pretty old piece (Early 70's, I believe), but it was highly progressive at the time. I'm listening to a FLAC version of the entire CD without the songs being separated, so I can't upload it.

The title is "wings of dunwyn" and it's from a Razor1911 musicdisk. I uploaded it on /data/.
Astor Piazzolla - Oblivion He was the 12 Monkeys dude. I never saw the film, I'm just aware that the soundtrack is derived from one of his pieces. I think I can really get into this stuff, "nuevo tango". It has the delicacy of classical music, with the melody of more modern compositions.

If there's one American band that sums up Tohno-chan in my opinion, that would most definitely be Deerhunter. I prefer 'Turn It Up Faggot' to their later stuff, because it sounds like Pink Floyd meets Sonic Youth, and that's really awesome. Their other stuff (such as the album this song is on) is good as well, though, lots of melodies and prettiness while still singing about alienation and emptiness.
>>856 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rf2gDw2VQ4&feature=related Thats my favourite deerhunter song.

John Cage.
Sort of reminds me of Modest Mouse's "The Stars Are Projectors" crossed with a Cap'n Jazz song. The album as a whole, though, strikes me as quite mediocre, unfortunately. A good portion of the tracks are very solid, others are just really bland and boring, though.
This is the ending song of the movie "stardust," which is an excellent movie BTW, and the song is probably better if you actually watch the movie first, because they were made for eachother <3

Lucky - The Tough Alliance SCREAM AND SHOUT I AM SO LUCKY LUCKY!
I have no idea what is this, but it sounds awesome.
This is damned good...
The Mars Volta put out a new single - They were one of my favorite bands way back in the day (so basically Summer 2010). It's weird.
Time to choose.
>>1455 Huh. I really liked De-loused when it came out, but they completely dropped off my radar after that. I'm not really sure what to think of this song. Bixler's vocals sound way different, almost like he's trying to channel Nick Cave during certain parts of the song. I've been reconnecting with Neutral Milk Hotel over the last few months, and for some reason I've always overlooked this track until recently. Now I can't stop listening to it. It sounds darker and more potent each time I hear it.
I've listened to this song so much that the first 3 minutes or so are just, "Meh" to me, but then that chorus kicks in, and I flip my shit as usual, and realize why this is such a good opening to such a good album. >Take 'em all for the long ride >and you'll go around town >no one wants to be uptight anymore >You can be ashamed >or be so proud of what you've done >but not no one, not now, not ever or anyone >take 'em all for the sense of happiness >that comes from hurting deep down inside >Or you can walk the line and give a shit >I'm on the corner of this and this and this and this >and its all all wrong, and its all all gone >Well, you can add it up and give a shit >go to the family doctor >Its all worth it >and its all gone, and its all all wrong Spankin'
I really like I-iii-vii progressions.Post edited on 1st Mar 2012, 12:36pm
Just found this.
I recall listening to this EP last year and liking it, but I've no idea how this song didn't stick with me. I've been listening to it constantly for the past couple of days, and I especially love the second half of the song. Interestingly, the lyrics are more straightforward than Chino's usual more impressionistic fare, and he even lapses into cliche on a few lines.
This song makes me want to cry.
Capsule×DaftPunk×BeastieBoys×Ikzo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8qsqdHl0PY Of course, the blues.
This is my song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im5GQHgfjv8 Fallout by John Frusciante, not listening from youtube though.
I'm a sucker for cutesy rap remixes.
Incredible musicians. My god.
Just discovered this band. They remind me a lot of Snowing.
First time I heard this song, I just thought it was 'weird' and forgot about it. Now that I've listened to it a few times, it grew on me and I'm really taking a liking to this band.
>>1541 Eh, really? I have a Residents album(eskimo) here for some time now. Never really bothered much with it, might give it another try. Only thing I remember is that shit is creepier than fuck.
>>1542 Yeah it is kinda creepy, but after getting past that I ended up liking it.
A Saturday in April-Cocoanut Groove http://cocoanutgroove.bandcamp.com/track/a-saturday-in-april I still got time to post this in april!
This new Aesop Rock is worth the five year wait.
>>1551 I enjoy Aesop Rock every once in a while. Didn't even know it was 5 years since he released anything, though. If it weren't for you I probably wouldn't listen to this. As a Modest Mouse fan, I feel a little weird about listening to this as late as I did. It's pretty sweet. Depressing lyrics.
Particularly the Musical Box, but I just listen to this whole recording time and time again now. Peter Gabriel was hot.Still 3DPD.
>>1552 Well, five years since his last solo release, more accurately. He's done a couple of collaborative projects (one named Hail Mary Mallon with Rob Sonic, and the other named The Uncluded with Kimya Dawson), which have been interesting, but not as enjoyable to me as his proper solo releases.
Pathétique, as I am pathetic.
>>1241 Didnt know others were into goreshit as well!
Wow, the chorus on this song is extremely catchy. I've had this song on loop for the past three hours.
I absolutely love Crywank and want to show him to /tc/. Gives his music away for free and tours quite a bit, especially in the UK. Go check out the albums 'James will die soon' (about him and a failed relationship, depression afterwards etc), and 'Narcissist on the verge of a nervous breakdown', which I'm sure many here will be able to relate to.
Just a little baroque style prog-rock
My favorite Weezer song.

>>1579 Not depressing enough.
:-)
This song seems like it could be the /mai/ theme almost. Ray Charles is fucking great anyway.
>>1582 So, who is this? Is it a band that you're in, perchance? I like it. It's taken me a long time (like, years) to get into Iron and Wine, but it's all I want to listen to at the moment. He still strikes me as a bit inconsistent lyrically, but there are some really amazing moments. Especially the lyrics from this song, and the line "Mother, forget me now that the creek drank the cradle you sang to." It might be that I'm a bit of a mama's boy, but this song puts me in tears each time I hear it.
Addis black widow-innocent
I like weird prog-rock, and you can't get much weirder than Van der Graaf Generator. I actually don't enjoy some of their music, the really atonal, fucked-up stuff, but a lot of their more "normal" songs (like this one) have a great jazz-rocky drive and energy. Also Peter Hammill is an amazing singer.
The Tough Alliance Velocity Boy Lyrics: Here I come again With vodka in my veins Been playing with a spike I couldn't get it right Splendour in silver dress Velocity possessed The world was mine again It fell apart again I don't need anyone to help me No, not anyone at all Cause my so-called friends have left me And I don't care at all Leave me alone Leave me alone Leave me alone
>>1343 I love MBV. Listening to my favorite song of all time right now.
i love "Erde"
More Ray Charles
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzygsPI4UcM I've been listening to this song for months now. There's actually a bit of a story around it for me but I not gonna blog about it. Great track by a great arist anyways. You should all check out the rest of Technicolor and Komatic's stuff if you like liquid dnb.
Been feeling nostalgic of my titty metalhead days, listening to lots of this. Also, this thread is running close to 200 posts, shall we make a new one already?
While trying to get the solo of this one again I stopped and realized it's pretty well fit for TC.
I'm self employed

>>1641 Phil Elverum is an interesting dude. I don't even really like his songs themselves, but from a production standpoint I love everything he does.

I never cared much for Lieder or clasical vocal works, but then I got addicted to this one.
New MBV album is out, after waiting for 21 years and 3 months. I've had this on repeat all day, can't get enough of that delicious guitar.
Just found out about this band, really good(video has about one hour of silence after the end of the album, for some reason).
I was searching for pictures of Sailor Saturn, and found this dnb track.
I thought about putting this into the hip-hop thread, but was not sure if that'd be correct.
bad music for a bad night
Listening lots of Cynic lately. It's funny that back when I first heard them(on my Power Metal phase) I found it extremely heavy and noisy and couldn't find all that jazz that people said made it so great. Picking it up now tough, I find it extremely "light" and clean. Love the direction they took after Focus.
>>1835 It's funny, I never tried listening to Cynic because the jazz thing scared me off. I had it in my head that it would be endless noodling over diminished chords. The track you posted is excellent, though, I feel foolish for ignoring them so long!
>>1836 That's where the "direction they took after Focus" bit comes in. Apart from the drumming and some of the bass they got rid of most of the obvious jazzy-sounding stuff(at least the ones I can notice). Hell, after Traced in air they got rid of most of the death metal bits too. That and technical death metal has become a thing on itself, not the crazy death metal/jazz hybrid it was back when Focus came out. Portal is also a good call if you enjoyed Carbon Based Anatomy. It reveals that they had something really close to that Traced in Air/Carbon Based Anatomy sound in mind even right after splitting up. Kind of amazing. And they made female vocals, which I don't usually appreciate much, work really well too.
So ridiculously unthinkable it sounds good
Listening to this song around midnight has sort of become a new year's tradition of mine.
Loving this new Alcest record. Expansive and beautiful as always.
FUCKMYLIFE666 from Against Me!'s new album, which I've listened to four times despite it not being formally out yet. I have no idea why I'm connecting so strongly with this song and album in general but I haven't listened to an album this often since I was a teenager. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kZPISrHCDA
This poem has been set into music by so many composers and yet there's not many recordings on YT. Also a shame there's none of Prey singing D296. Finding Prey stuff is much harder than it should.
I was a bit scared of giving Zeuhl a try ever since I heard about it, but it can be pretty "accessible" and enjoyable at times, Koenjihyakkei in particular.
Some crazy finish band I found by accident while looking at progarchives. Really good sound.
Recently rediscovered Dirty Three, I haven't listened to them since high school. Still an incredibly good band and this is my favorite song of theirs.
Got around listening to Boris through their collaboration with Sunn O))). A shame I don't really have the disposition for even Sunn O))) anymore, so most of the Boris output(especially the collabs with Merzbow and Haino) is just off limits. Apart from Altar, Akuma no Uta, Feedbacker and New Album are about the only stuff from them I can enjoy now. the urinal, the urinal
>>1870 Not all of the Merzbow collabs are like Sun Baked Snow Cave. You should check out Rock Dream, it's a live collaboration between them and one of my favorite Boris releases.
>>1871 Listened to it today and it's really good stuff, thanks for the recommendation.
Virt makes great chiptunes
>>1876 Somewhat related, I've been listening to a lot of Andrew Sega's stuff recently. If you haven't heard of him, he's one of the most legendary video game composers, doing the soundtracks for Crusader No Remorse / Regret, Unreal, Freelancer, and a few others. His solo music project is a big departure from his soundtracks, but it's still damn good. And here is the Crusader soundtracks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2xs8pQBcZk
Finally I have Raise, it's a powerful album.
>>1880 Holy crap!! Swervedriver has been one of my all-time favorites since the nineties, and I was so used to no one knowing them in my midwestern backwater that it still blows my mind when other people mention them. Raise is an excellent album, and Deep Seat might even be my favorite song of theirs, but I seem to be in the minority fan-wise in that I prefer their later albums a bit. Raise has fucking awesome guitars but Adam's lyrics and vocals especially weren't very strong. I was able to attend a few of their 2008 shows, and while they were not disappointing in the least I was hoping to hear more stuff from Ejector Seat and 99th Dream. So it's a bit surprising that two of the four songs in that video are from Ejector Seat.
This song has been living in my head for weeks The birds are calling for you - please - don't - fol - low This whole album is magical. It sounds like exploring a forest at dusk in musical form. I don't think I will ever find anything else quite like it.
RDJ's legendary CAT023 was finally released after twenty years. I've had it on repeat since it was released, it's some really great music.
I am pathetic, etc.
Wolfsheim - Annie (early version)
Found out about Young Gods through Kurt Weill a few days ago. Not big on them, but I found this one performance with Mike Patton and holy fucking shit that dude is just unreal. I've been looking at his other stuff ever since.

The new Rome album is quite good.

>>1871 Not blaming you in any way, but your post made me wary of giving Sun Baked Snow Cave a shot for quite a while. Just went through it and it's completely unlike what I imagined. I can definitely see it growing more and more on me. Since I'm answering to a 5 month old post I thought I'd leave something on-topic. Unfortunately the Univers Zero album I've been listening lately has been taken down from YT, so have this live performance instead.
Sigur Rós - Brennisteinn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc6zXSdYXm8 I just recently discovered this band from the dude mentioning it in the Terror in Resonance thread.
>>1944 Make sure you check out their older albums as well. They're one of the most consistently great bands ever.
Not sure if this is more /vg/ or /mp3/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv6mWA7OQiM
Hooked on Mr. Bungle's California. This is my favourite track I think.
Carissa's Wierd - So You Wanna Be A Superhero http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7zHZrcHdxg
My Chicken's Symphony
I've known them for quite a while now, but it wasn't until recently that their music sank in with me. Weird to think both founding members are dead now.
Some good stuff in there, the last tracks are quite a retrobore however.
Hungarian prog metal band. I think they put all of their albums on their YT channel, quite good.
Got into Dream Theater deeper than ever before. In particular got hooked on Awake and, in particular, to the last song, Space-Dye Vest. LaBrie said of it: >"Kevin Moore saw this photograph in a fashion magazine of a beautiful model wearing a space-dye vest and he fell in love with her," "He carried that magazine around with him for ages, but he realized that the only way the innocence could be kept, so that he could retain that love for her, was if she stayed on the page. If he'd met her, all that would have been lost." Really hits close to home, even if I'll be crucified for implying that connection.
Found out about this guy completely by accident. He has some really interesting stuff with a hint of jazz. Maybe I'm just that thick but I could never get the influence in most modern artists that are said to have incorporated it, but in his works it's quite palpable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poVFmAVaLPI Y'all may not like this, but to me this is a very nostalgic song. The summer of 2013 was the best time of my life. As a teenager back in 2009-2012 I'd always walk to the mall to smoke weed and drink cough syrup with my first ever friend who I've known since Kindergarten. One time we got arrested while smoking and robotripping in an abandoned house, and since then I ended up isolating myself and immersing myself in otaku culture and this website and IRC for 2 years and the whole time I suffered in self-hatred and loneliness. In 2013 I reestablished connection with my 2 longtime friends, ended up going to community college with them for computer science and smoking out with them on the regular, still acing all my tests, and just having a great time while not giving a fuck about life's bullshit. Then in 2014 me and my best friend dropped out, and he ended up having a kid with a heroin junkie bitch and since then his outlook on the world has changed greatly, he stopped smoking and drinking and got into far-right politics, and we've somewhat drifted apart. Sorry if this comes across as a blog post. Basically, fuck the police and fuck adult life.
Depression caught me off guard the past year. Almost lost Mai forever. Almost did not make it. Missed a lot of these new titles but no catching up now. Carefully picking games this year. Time runs as short as ever. I know very well not everyone can find happiness. And so i will try to make every girl happy this year. As long as i have time on my side. Let us give our best to make them happy.
Just leaving this here. ノシ
