Not bad at all (you could have bumped one of the existent music threads, though). You wrote them and then played them in MIDI, right? If you want, tell me more about the composition process, influences, etc.
>>2108 I could have, but I thought it would be better not to shove my shit onto other people's threads. And yes, they're MIDI. That's why they sound so god damn awful.
>>2109 fuck you, midi is the shit! The only thing more godly than midi would be chiptunes.
I swear this would sound better and have a more clear sound for each voice if it wasn't a)in .ogg format, and b)with these awful VSTs. I am in dire need of a new notation software and I'm taking recommendations.
>>2111 MilkyTracker
>>2111 Finale is the shit, supports VST/VSTI by default, there's also a version with what they claim to be high-quality samples for most orchestra instruments. Downside is the free version kinda sucks and the beefier ones are hard to come by on public trackers. I personally just use Denemo, since I'm too lazy and inexperienced to use Lillypond directly.
>>2113 I tried getting Finale but the sound was shit, so I tried setting up a orchestral VST on it but, due to me being fucking dumb, it didn't work. I then tried to work around Sonar and Sibelius but they are all too complex for me and do not work easily for notation. I then tried to go back to shitty Muse Score and try to set up a server connecting the output to a VST system, but that requires half a dozen programs I cannot operate to be rigged togheter. Due to the hardships presented, I have, as of now, given up on music notation softwares.
Because short 4-voice choirs are fun to exercise.
Some things from some time ago.
.oggs sure sound like shit.
So you're into greek modes also? I think they all have potential: you have a solid ground to develop any of them into full pieces. It doesn't need to be very acrobatic, if you feel insecure about it: a general triadic A-B-A (or even A-A'-A) structure could do just well. As you sure know, what you absolutely need to deliver musical "completeness" is to build some sort of tension-arc somehow, even on the realm of free atonality.Post edited on 16th Jul 2013, 7:18pm
>>2200 I'm much more into modes than I am into tonal harmony. I'm going to try to put some actual effort one of these days and try to compose an actual piece with some of the small phrases I have. I guess I just lack some kind of initiative to do it, as with most things in my life. But I'll try to get something done soon.
Didn't end as bad as I thought it would.
>>2440
>>2440 A fugue, wasn't it? Not bad at all, indeed.
>>2442 Actually, I was just trying to mimic the two-voice inventions and their mechanics. I'm not sure if it a fugue.
>>2443 I see. I thought so because the theme you first introduced with the high voice was then imitated by the low voice, while the high voice did something new (apparently the low voice's first theme but not quite). But it had an overall canon quality as well, since the themes' structure was extremely similar and just slightly separate in time.
>>2533 The sheet for this. Many of the things that are in this don't sound on based sound format .ogg, but at least it gives an idea of how it sounds. Maybe I record this someday.
A thing out of boredom.
>>2604 Here is your compliment. You have talent and taste.
>>2604 impressive. felt like I was listening to ELP.
I was trying to make this sound good, but this kind of solo piano sounds bad when MuseScore puts everything on the same dynamic range, so I stopped trying.
>>2629 can you really not play at all? your compositions are good, you should give it a try.Post edited on 24th Feb 2016, 3:09am
>>2633 Well, there's nothing unplayable about these arrangements and compositions, but what I meant was that I don't have any kind of recording equipment or MIDI output instrument to work with. These are all made by input each note individually onto the composition program.
>>2634 I use a KORG Microkey with the included M1Le (and sometimes a Steinway grand piano VST). It ain't that expensive and totally worth it.
Playing around in FL Studio and trying to put into practice things I saw in video classes about drums and rhythm guitar.
