The original trilogy is quite a time sink but they are worth it if you are a fan of scifi mecha.

I've replayed it 3 times already and I want to go through MLA again.

It's three years later and I still think of this VN frequently. It's not really a stretch to say it's my favorite work of fiction across every medium. Anyone that hasn't played the games yet is really missing out.

I've never actually played MuvLuv.

I think it's the first visual novel I ever read. It's still one of my favourites.

Yeah, I'm reading Photonmelodies since it released today. So far its pretty good.

I'm thinking about playing this since I have the time, and it's been something I've wanted to do for a long time. Unfortunately I wasn't quite paying attention and ended up learning that many or all of the girls end up dying in Alternative. That and Extra is apparently disliked, and you have to force yourself to get through it to reach Unlimited and beyond. Difficult to say if that's because it's legitimately an unpleasant experience or many people don't like romantic comedies, which is supposedly what Extra primarily is.

I learned about muvluv the other day from Steam Sale, two days ago I saw the chomp on gurochan and yesterday I browsed through all CGIs from the alternative. Today I saw this thread...

Extra is just a mediocre romcom eroge. It is way over hated for what it is. It is completely average, there are many like it, many do it better, many do it worse. It's just that since muv-luv is so popular many people who play it haven't played many other VNs and/or aren't here for romance, they're here for Alternative, so they scoff and call it girly shit.

Just play extra. It's referenced in the later games and only adds to your experience.

About your spoiler: I'd still recommend it regardless. Everyone knows it as the gorey everyone-dies mecha VN anyway.
