Does anyone else love the concept of arcades, but find themselves at a complete loss of what to do when actually at one?
You go and... play videogames, what's so hard about that?
I find arcade games confusing to start playing due to each machines having different interfaces and struggling with difficult games in public is also embarrassing, especially when it is something movement-heavy like rhythm games. Occasionally when my nerves is stronger than usual I can actually have fun but I still don't like the pay to play system, I'm kinda poor you see. Anyway, I don't really feel at lost at arcades. The games worth playing usually fits into established genre like fighting or racing so you just pick any games that looks interesting from the genre you like which narrows it down to 3-4 games depending on the arcades.
>>13477 What I mean is, it feels like a social thing for one. Many of the games there have a focus on multiplayer or competing with friends. The environment itself feels very like it's meant to convey a social feeling. The co-op designed games can be harder when played alone, and the vs games are boring if you're just playing bots. When I go to arcades and play alone, I feel like I might as well have stayed home and done the same thing without abusing my wallet. That's the other thing, It's not cheap. Some arcade machines will literally cost a dollar per button press. If you're on a budget you have to be smart about what you play. If you're not careful you can easily blow your entire wad in just a few minutes.
There aren't any arcades around here, or at least not ones with legitimate games. Makes me kind of sad, I'd like to go to one.
Went to an arcade that had a Silent Scope; Bone Eater machine. Never played one of those before, thought it was neat. >>13479 >If you're on a budget you have to be smart about what you play. Some arcades let you pay per hour, which makes things a bit more reasonable. Doing that you can load up machines with as many credits as you want.Post edited on 16th May 2019, 12:03am
Arcades are dying where I am. Mainly games where you can win a prize.
>>13517 They still have some arcade games at my local movie theater but i never see anybody playing them.
They are overrated I'm happier in the safety and cleanness of my room but I would buy new and unused cabins if i could
I miss arcade cabinets. YOu just don't get that form-factor at home...
>>13596 >YOu just don't get that form-factor at home... Nothing beats playing with a Banana.

There is one arcade in my area that is a bit beaten up and almost vacant most of the time. All of the arcade machines there are from the mid to late 90's and early 2000s. I try to go there as much as I can but I barely have the means to get there anymore. By some miracle of god, they have a DDR machine there, and I'm surprised they kept it considering that that it's almost never used. Maybe they forgot about it. They also used to have and Initial D machine but they got rid of it for some odd reason.
