As for me;
Favorites are Rin, Miku, and Teto
Favorite songs are:
Rin: I like you, i love you; Don't mylist me! (dem R rolls)
Miku: veggie juice (what sparked my vocaloid interest); World is Mine
Teto: her version of Fukkireta; It's teto's turn forever

As for the appends, i'm liking them so far, both design wise and voice.
Pic related, STOP TEASING ME PEOPLE I'VE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO RIN'S LOOK SINCE MIKU!

Miku is my favorite of course, followed by Luka, Gumi and Rin. I've recently developed a liking for Kaai Yuki.

I have too many favorite songs to list/decide on what I want to list. I'm going with Last Night, Good Night as my all time favorite though, because that's the song that made me fall in love with Miku.

Also, posting these charts.

Pretty nice design in my opinion. I like how their outfits stay pretty true to their originals. I wish they had done the same with Miku's Append outfit, personally I felt they changed too much there.

Vocaloids look nice, but I don't like their voices. They sound strange and unnatural to me.
>> No. 255 [Edit]

>>254
It depends on who uses them, some make them sound more real then others.
Certain vocaloids also sound more realistic at a base level (which includes the 3 appends)

I can try to find a few good ones a bit later if you'd like, but here's Rin's Warm to see.
Yeah she still has an electronic tone, but listen to half the english music now, half of them use that vocal synthesis crap to improve their voices.

Can someone help me understand Vocaloid, please? Are Miku songs sung by a real person and the software turns it into "Miku's" voice? How does it work?

vocaloid songs are done by inputting words into a program that turns those words into a voice.

Here's a picture of the program.

>Are Miku songs sung by a real person

In a way, yeah. Kind of. Miku's voice was created through the use of samples provided by a Japanese VA named Saki Fujita.
>> No. 925 [Edit]

>>924
But they are NOT sung by her: she couldn't possibly, neither as the voice actress she was or as an actual singer; she just served to give the progammers a phonetic alphabet as something to start with, but Miku's voice is her own and no one else's (just like with any other vocaloid)...

One of the indisputable factors (IMHO) that make vocaloid a worthy/interesting step on music in general, is the development of a sort of hyper-human voice, with the possibility of using a range and speed likely unattainable up to now, in real time (safe from post-production effects), by actual people.

I don't follow that stuff. I'm not into making the music with the program. I'd rather use musical instruments. Same deal as not wanting to sing and leaving it to someone else I guess?

>Who's your favorite?
Media-wise, I like Miku. Voice-wise, I like Miki and Gumi.

>What's your favorite song?
Kuchibashi's Nightmare Party Night. I really wish it was longer.

>What do you think of the appends?
I'm glad for Miku since I don't like how artists use her voice half of the time. Otherwise, it doesn't matter so much to me.

I prefer to follow artists more than Vocaloids. It would probably be worthwhile to state favorite artists as well. As for me, I look forward to the works of otetsu, Kuchibashi (くちばしP), and daniwell above all others. I'd like to hear more out of Yuzuhiko (ゆずひこ) and Kobayashi Onyx (小林オニキス), but they don't seem active.

I thank >>130 >>131 for posting those charts. But theres still a lot I do not understand about Vocaloid and there is so much information that I just give up trying to understand it all.
What are these Appeneds you guys are talking about?
I don't understand why/how some vocaloid songs sound almost as bad as the Microsoft Sam voice but then other songs say that it was made with vocaloid software but it most definitely is a human voice. Can someone explain this to me?
Also I thought Vocaloid was software made by Yamaha?
And that chart says that some of the vocaloids were made by "Internet". Does that mean it's open source?
This is confusing to me.
>> No. 1532 [Edit]

>>1530
I don't understand the appends completely either, but I know they're a reworked and refined version of an existing vocaloid.

The disparity is realism can be attributed both to the appends and newer vocaloids sounding more realistic, and the differences in skill between producers. From what I've heard, the program is not all that easy to use, and with it's popularity there are plenty of unskilled beginners producing tunes.

While the vocaloid software is made by Yamaha, the voice banks for the different vocaloid characters are also made by some other companies. Without getting too technical, the voice banks are the sound data that the vocaloid program uses to generate the vocal tones.

Okay I guess this is more of a voca/general thread now but I'll go by the op anyway.

Favorite voca: Miku first and foremost, then Luka and IA. Rin I also like, I just hear her much less for some reason. Gumi is a bit odd to me, I haven't been able to distinguish her voice very well, therefore it will often escape that I've listened to a Gumi song. The rest of the female voices I don't know much about, but I can appreciate any well done voca song. I've yet to hear a 100% male voca song that I like, though.

Favorite producer/artist/band: wowaka, kikuo, AlliumProject and powapowa-p, in that order I guess.

Favorite songs (per voca): [wowaka] rolling girl (Miku); [AlliumProject] There (Luka), [kikuo sound works] 塵塵呪詛 (IA), [itsuu-p] meltdown (Rin); and for good meassure - [耳ロボP] 耳のあるロボットの唄 (Teto).

Favorite PV: [ryo] Love is War.

Favorite English lyrics: [Ryuuuu] Secret.

I should mention that 99% of everything vocaloid I listen to is Miku, and 99% of my most loved vocaloid songs are indeed based on Miku, so all this intervocaloid chatter was more a courtesy than anything.

Follow-up question: Have you ever tried to make vocaloid lyrics? What version, to what end, etc.

I've had a look at the program (Luka) a few times, mostly out of curiosity. It's pretty neat, but they should have better VST support.

I'll try to post here in the future whenever I hear a new song that I like.

my favorite is Gumi definitely. her voice sounds the nicest to me and she has great english. Rin and Luka are also very nice voice wise. But Len is best character wise cause he's a kawaii shota. i actually dont like miku very much at all. her voice is kinda annoy, sounds bad in lower octaves and over all just isn't as strong as other ones. Wish she wasn't the primary one.
Favorite artists is Wowaka easily. All of unhappy refrain is 10/10
other artists i like: Hachi, powapowaP, sasakureuk, Deco*27, quadrophenia

i like some appends but most people use them badly imo.

i listen to so much vocaloid, utaite and producers other projects. so much is good.

>Wish she wasn't the primary one.
She isn't a "primary" vocaloid just because someone sat down and said so; she's the most commonly seen vocaloid because she's the most popular. It's surprising for me to hear you don't like her voice much, looking at the artists you just named. Just to be clear: I respect your opinion.
>> No. 2624 [Edit]

My favourite is Miku, because of her media presence. Sound wise, I don't have much a preference. There's actually a lot of UTAU voices that I enjoy more than any Vocaloid, particularly how its they're used in koronbas music and their clones.

I really love yuyoyuppes vocaloid albums. Short of OkameP, I haven't found anything else like it. Kind of a metalcore thing, I don't know how to describe it any more accurately. For a dead girl+ goes.
