I guess my favourite type could be called 'gallant.' Virtuous girls, powerful and strong but kind and feminine.

Wow, we've got a connoisseur over here. If every character was well written, which type would you find the most entertaining/like the most? Or do you think any character which fits a common type is poorly written?

Whichever was the most entertaining would be the one I considered most entertaining. I'm not a drooling pavlovian moron who responds to prepackaged stimuli the exact same way every time.

I will never understand people who like anime with this kind of mentality. Either loosen up and enjoy your anime or go read an actual book.

If we're talking about character tropes, I'd have to say that my favourite type of character would be stern and disciplined types of girls like Crushe or Kino. (obviously a military aethetic is a plus too, but not necessary). There's something about capable, disciplined, meritocratic female characters that I find really attractive and respectable.

Probably some overlap with >>33025

It has nothing to do with being trained. Liking a character type is the same as liking certain foods. If I enjoy good steaks, while I would get bored of it if I had a good steak every day, if i'm not bored of it, i'll enjoy it every time I have it. People have preferences. Stop being so pretentious.

She's forced to take action and takes it with unwavering determination. Instead of asking for help she tries to set things right with her own strength, which isn't lacking. If she becomes a part of some group (the good guys), she has some trouble with it initially. And even then, she has a tendency to try to go solo, or is too hard-headed.

On a deeper moe level, she's skilled in the world of things (or Reality, or how did Ringo Roadagain put it, again?), but shuts herself out socially. That creates a sense of proper tragedy - self inflicted, and befalling a gifted person - even if in the story it's just the "tragedy" of being slightly lonely. But focusing inward and on things instead of people also creates a sense of purity that pairs well with her determination. It's funny that this is a central theme in both Utena and Madoka, but none of those characters became my favorites.

There's an undeniable aspect of power and aggression, too, so maybe there's a masochist angle to how I like my characters. But my favorite male character could well be Char Aznable, who also fits most of the description, and my waifu (not in the picture) would make a poor mistress, so I don't know.

Characters that aren't very bright. Of course there is always that airheaded moe girl stereotype, but I'm talking about male characters as well. I've always had a soft spot for them because they always seem so down to earth and genuine.

Implying that everybody with preferences is a "drooling palovian" is pretentious. We're hot arguing over kuudere vs tsundere or something.

Was Rei really the first to do it? Eva paraodied a lot of anime cliches, and I imagine the hair color thing is no exception.
>> No. 33100 [Edit]
>>33099
Probably not. Anime tends to follow trends, particularly regarding hair styles and colours as they invoke certain traits. Eva is actually a good example of that(Cool blue headed character, Hot Red Headed character and weedy and normal brown headed protagonist).

It's ironic how eva became the quintessential example of things it poked fun at and criticized.

Autistic.

Pic related is kinda trashy because her show is haremshit, but she's the most mainstream example I can think of. Note that I consider autistic girls to be distinct from the silent/emotionless type like Rei or Nagato Yuki.

Haven't played Swan Song so I'm not sure

>>33177
Nah, I glanced at the first episode, and if anything it would be more like the blue/black haired girl. The one with deadpan replies.

Pic related is another example, or perhaps Bocchi from last season. Basically, characters that don't pick up on social cues and that have a dorky and awkward way of expressing themselves. I think it's a more realistic way of writing shy girls, because most "shy" girls in anime feel forced, like they're just trying to act cute.
