There's something wrong with the pacing of this one, and the dialogues didn't catch my attention.
But it's comfy and nice. I'll keep watching.

I suppose the feels are indeed coming on faster than you'd expect, and the parents visiting is something that usually doesn't happen till near the end in these kinda anime.

Is this anime trying to raise awareness for a really broken and fucked issue with the school system in japan? I find it both shocking and hard to believe they'd let a straight A student with a bright future ahead of them go full hikimori mode so easily over something so trivial and simple to fix. Is this something that actually happens in real world japan? I can only imagine how many lives this could ruin, how many kids might kill themselves over this and so on.

Most people in Japan want to go to a Private High School. A Public HS is probably obligated to let anybody in, but that's the problem and why most people want to go Private.
I don't believe Private is obligated, being private and all.

So you're saying MC wasted a year of her life not going to school for no good reason? She could have just gone to public for that one year?
>> No. 30655 [Edit]
public school in japan is bancho central, the only think you can learn there is how to fight, how to be a delinquent and the complex physics involved in maximizing pompadour height.
its like GTO before onizuka showed up
or at least hope thats how it is.
i've never been to japan, but i've seen quite a few animes so this is my guess.

Public HS in Japan are a last-resort. You only go there if you really cannot afford Private or are really too dumb to pass any tests.
Private HS make up the majority of HS in Japan, as I recall, so it's not super-duper exclusive or anything, meaning Public is just that much worse.

The way I see entrance exams being treated like the absolute yardstick of merit and importance I really wouldn't be surprised, but it could easily be a contrivance like a lot of other aspects of school life depicted in anime. On the other hand, the intensity of their mostly-privatized and meritocratic education system is a well-known fact. Either way this is clearly more of a 'cute girl overcomes an inferiority complex' kind of show so I doubt they'll ever confront the issue directly.
>> No. 30700 [Edit]
I just don't understand why you can't take the test another day. Surely the schools would have to account for the possibility of accidents, illness, or other unforeseeable circumstances occurring.
Back in highschool we had yearbook photos taken twice a week apart in case you missed in the first time, but these are freaking entrance exams we're talking about. A kid gets sick or something and can't go, so the schools says "haha fuck u faggot gtfo. Better luck next year loser!!" What the hell?
>> No. 30706 [Edit]
>>30700
Your conundrum has already been addressed.
Private schools likely have no obligation to care and nobody wants to go to Public schools.
>> No. 30707 [Edit]
>>30706
So you're saying the reason they don't offer make up exams to students who miss the main exam is because "They don't care, fuck off anon"?
>> No. 30715 [Edit]
>>30700
>>30707
You can definitely take exams later if you have valid (i.e. written / certified) reasons, specially medical ones. Haven't seen this anime, no clue what is going on with the depressoid.
>> No. 30716 [Edit]
>>30715
See that's what I thought. Both characters who had the same problem were legitimately sick. MC actually told a doctor with her mother sitting right next to her that she needed to take the exams. The parent and doctor were surprisingly indifferent and told her to just take it next year, which meant a whole year of being a NEET.
>> No. 30718 [Edit]
>>30707
They can likely go to a public school, which nobody wants and they would rather wait the year to go to a private one.
Sheesh. I won't always be here to spell out everything for you.
>> No. 30719 [Edit]
>>30718
I think you are maybe misunderstanding the question yes?
The question is why do these schools not offer make up exams? "Because public high schools are available" doesn't make any sense. I find it hard to believe the schools would be willing to discard perfectly fine applicants for what is frankly such a moronic reason. You would not treat your customs like garbage simply because they can shop somewhere else, would you? That is crazy!

>The question is why do these schools not offer make up exams?
'Because they don't want to' was the answer.
They're Private, a business, they don't have an obligation to the citizens of the state.

The amount of people that miss due to illness probably does not cover the cost of re-doing the entire thing again, just for those one or two people.

>You would not treat your customs like garbage simply because they can shop somewhere else, would you? That is crazy!
You Americans and your special-snowflake syndrome.
The Japanese don't throw a hissy-fit every time something doesn't go their way.

There's a big difference between being a snowflake, and sticking up for yourself, fighting injustice, and not rolling over whenever things get hard. Sure America might be a shithole with a long list of things I hate about it, but one thing I will say is that being a doormat is nothing to be proud of.

>I cannot imagine how P could possibly be true; therefore P must be false.
I never said that. I was simply trying to understand why "P" is "P" when P makes no sense.

>The amount of people that miss due to illness probably does not cover the cost of re-doing the entire thing again
Illness isn't the only reason someone might miss it, it's just the most likely reason. All they need is one or two teachers to supervise a small room for the couple of students who missed the first exam. Private schools aren't cheap to attend, and to my understanding attendance is in huge decline. If they can get a few more good students in exchange for paying a teacher to sit in on an exam for an hour or two, that's a small price to pay.

Well this wouldn't be the first time I've seen it in an anime. Personally I'd be pretty creeped out if I was a highschool girl and kids were buying photos of me that were taken without my knowing. On the other hand I would never buy such things anyway. What are you gonna do with them? jerk off to them? stick them in a creepy stalker shrine? keep them with photos of other students like some card collecting game?

I wish translators would stop turing 'o'negai' into 'wish'. 'Hoshii' is wish and you don't make wishes to Gods.
