I think you're right. Looks like it's "official" (as in, written by Kikiyama), so unfortunately that probably means a lot of interesting fan theories instantly shot down and buried. At the same time, it'll be neat to finally see the author's own take on some of the details like Mado's age, is she really a hiki or just trapped in her room for some other reason, etc.
