I feel like Doraemon was supposed to be a sort of guardian and tutor but due to his own personality, ended up becoming Nobita's friend instead. He is treated like a second son by the parents and is pretty much seen as a peer amongst the children in the neighborhood.

Despite having a mission to accomplish, his life is actually that of a quiet retiree with mostly childlike tastes and interests. Most of his days are spent in a very quiet, modest manner.

Doraemon was huge in my country. Only years later I noticed it wasn't as well known in the US and other countries, kinda like Shin-Chan.
It's a show I could still enjoy today because of how miserable actually are the characters.
Nobita is a piece of shit, not only he's weak but he's not a good kid either, everytime he gets some power he abuses it, then there's the rich kid which also is another piece of shit, the brute without redeeming qualities, even Shizuka shows low moments... They are somehow realistic and that makes it great comedy.

There are dark moments in Doraemon and the relationship between Suneo, Nobita and Takeshi is that of a rivarly. They're pretty much always trying to outdo each other. I think that's why this is not a 'comfy' show even though it has many aspects of that. But you're right, they can be very petty and the show doesn't shy away from showing how relationships between children have a definite element of cruelty. Ultimately though they're actually friends and when it comes down to it (as in they'll do everything to help each other out when shit hits the fan.)

You posted an episode of the 1979 show featuring the lucky gun gadget which I plan to talk about rather extensively since it's one of those things that modern audiences would never accept nowadays for a kid's show. In fact this is one of the gadgets that never appeared again since 79.

Doraemon's life is kinda that of housebound child. He'll usually be reading manga, eating or drinking while reading manga, sleeping and sometimes he'll be helping around the house, but that's rather uncommon.

Doraemon does have a favorite dish, it's a confection called dorayaki. It's basically sweetened azuki beans paste sandwiched between two round pieces of cake. Dorayaki is a major element in the manga and the anime since it's one of things you can actually bribe Doraemon with or something he can get furious about if it's stolen from him for any reason. I don't remember any story where he displays any sentiments towards any particular day of the week, though it's easy to infer his weekdays are actually less busy because Nobita will be at school then. I don't remember any episode or chapter where lasagna is involved.

"In A Thrilling, Solar Car" is a movie short from 1992 that's considered lost media. Only some screenshots survive. It would be a mere anechdote if the little material that survived didn't look so cool. It seems like an almost psychedelic, dreamy, Doraemon movie. Just love the naïve style.
