At first I was wondering why her friend who isn't a witch isn't wearing a skirt or pants. The reasoning for others being so the main characters can quickly and easily hop into striker units. Then I remembered this is strike witches so who the hell cares! pantsu sugoi! Pantsu saikou!! banzai! banzai!!

Is that a WW2 reference?

I'm disappointed they went with a tiger instead of a panzer. That might have made for a nice nod. Though I do wonder if it isn't still one all the same.
>> No. 34930 [Edit]
The whole series has been a ww2 reference since the beginning, anon. The girls are even named after ww2 ace pilots.
>> No. 34931 [Edit]
Don't forget this takes place in the 1940s!

This has been way less wild than other strike witches, I hope it heats up soon.

It's just getting the group together. The main plot is going to be pushing to the core of the Neuroi invasion so I assume the finale will be out there.

I think that this is the first time that the navy has managed not to be completely useless in the whole series.

Yeah it's cool. Seems like they have a pretty good balance going on now. They're competent and can hold their own while being supportive of witches while not stealing the show from those witches. It's great.
...unlike these flag raising dumbasses.

I know it's a stressful situation, but firing off a gun in the middle of the room like that not only screams anger management, but gross irresponsibility. On the plus side, it's cute watching these guys try to pronounce foreign names like that.

This whole ep I couldn't stop thinking about how fundamentally flawed that design is. The aerodynamics look right for a plane but not for a ground vehicle. I guess the very concept of downforce was still a ways off.

>> No. 35280 [Edit]
I was very impressed that thing worked as well as it did. Non-witches have really gotten their shit together.
>> No. 35284 [Edit]
I'm still struggling to understand why they throw waves of apparently useless conventional fighters at the enemies rather than just having witches replace fighter aircraft altogether. Or how and why conventional fighters actually CAN'T take them down considering they have the same, or better weaponry and the witches clearly only surpass conventional fighters in shield usage and some close quarters combat which personally I find tactically questionable.
>> No. 35285 [Edit]
It's called jobbing. They're there to make the witches look cooler and the enemies tougher.
>> No. 35286 [Edit]
While they use the same weapons, I always assumed the witches are able to enhance them in some way using their magic.
>> No. 35287 [Edit]
I think that only works well when done in moderation. Too many jets/tanks make the humans look weak. Like ants swarming an enemy.
>> No. 35288 [Edit]
I'm aware of the trope. But it hurts my intelligence to see a military just chucking away it's pilots in an obviously useless death rush against an enemy they apparently can't defeat and have not been able to defeat with the same pre-war fighters for five years. Then again this IS japan so maybe it doesn't seem that far fetched to them.
>> No. 35289 [Edit]
It's pretty obvious Witches are in short supply.
>> No. 35292 [Edit]
It's no wonder they would be, considering only girls can be witches, and only a select few from that, and even among those they can only practically serve as a witch for -10 years before they lose their power.

I'm just going to highjack this thread as a Witches general for Luminous Witches rather than make a new thread. On that note, what's this about familiars? How is this the first time it's been mentioned across three seasons, a movie, and a spinoff?

The VA for this character is trying to do a deep voice, and it sounds really forced and unnatural. It also doesn't seem to match the character at all.

Just finished Luminous Witches, and oh boy that final ep was a complete mess. I can't remember the last time I saw something that poorly slapped together. From the editing to the directing to the writing, just wow. It felt like watching a long music video with the spastic clips from previous eps edited in, performance that didn't skip a beat in spite of what was going on, and how rushed and disjointed things felt.
Maybe it was just me, but the way they illustrated people from around the world watching the performance just looks terrible. It took a good long while to even understand what I was looking at. The wavy lines on all the people watching combined with the bright red/yellow simply made it look like the audience was really hot. From a distance when you first see them, it just looked like a weird pattern. It went on for some time before anyone said what was going on. Maybe if they were more transparent or something it might have made more sense.

As for the rest of the series, I think it's decent enough. Nothing fantastic, it's about what you'd expect from an idol spin off of strike witches. The music is a bit forgettable and the performances are just okay. You'd think they'd be a lot more interesting than they are with flight being added into them but they're just kind of meh, at least to me. Characters are cute and likable enough, and it does help in providing some world building. It's nice to know there's a place for girls with powers in this universe who can't use said powers in any practical way. If nothing else, I preferred this over brave witches.

On a slightly unrelated note. I've spoken with a few people about strike witches recently and noticed a bit of a pattern. A couple of them said they only saw the "first episode" and didn't feel inclined to keep watching after that. One of them, maybe both, seemed to be referring to the OVA. I think it's a bit sad people would judge the franchise based off that terrible OVA. Seems a lot of people don't realize that the OVA is an entirely different take on the material, and is best skipped and ignored. At best it's just something to visit out of morbid curiosity. You could almost go as far as to say the first season is a remake. Hopefully if more latecomers decide to give the franchise a shot, they'll avoid the ova.
