Ship girls, enough said.
It's like the first ep was trying to cram in every character they could from the games. It certainly makes things feel lively if nothing else.
I don't know the story of the game too well, so I found it interesting they villainize the faction based on the Japanese as much as they do in the first ep. Not too surprising though considering it's a Chinese game.

>>33598 Yeah it's better if you ask me.
The production values aren't as good as I expected.
I liked the idea of them having full size ships they can use for transport that also turn into their gear for battles when need be, but then they're still shown latter skating across the water like in KanColle, which makes the full size ships seem almost redundant.
oh lord, I guess we're going 'there' with this.
>>33613 Well what did you expect from the shoddy chingchong bootleg of Kancolle a completely original product of the People's Liberation Animation Industry?
>>33626 Considering it's popularity and success as well as the track record of other mobile game based anime which have been surprisingly good, yes I expected a bit more.
The quality went way up for ep4, but it took some sharp dives at times too near the end. Seems like this is going to be a rocky road.
This ep had some really nice shots.
If I bug her enough can I get some discounts?
Inconsistent quality aside, this anime feels like watching a rapid fire check list of meme and references from the game. This would be mediocre at best to someone who doesn't know the game and acts more like a treat for existing players rather than to hook in new players. I don't blame them for the direction they went but a little more focus on fewer characters would have been nice. Feels like the focus is spread out a bit thin between the four starter ships as well as enterprise, Belfast, unicorn, kaga, and akagi for half the run time and the other half being devoted to the rest of the characters. Picking one ship girl from each side of the battle and just telling the story from their point of view would have made for a much better story, but then everyone wants to see their favorite characters be the star of the show and might feel disappointed if they're relegated to the background or cameos.
Normally it's in bad taste to call out QUALITY when the characters are out of focus, but they lingered on this shot for a good minute.
Just a reminder to buy those blu-rays!
Bam!
I wish there where more military-esque anime out there, it doesn't have to have cute girls in it either, though I wouldn't mind. I just want to watch something involving battles with little to no scifi. Looking at the detailed tanks and guns peaks my interest. And even if it has to be kind of sci-fiey, then make it similar to something like metroid or megaman, or even fallout.
>>33724 >megaman You mean like Tetsuwan Atom?
>>33724 You might enjoy Zipang from the sounds of it.
The inconsistency in quality is amazing. one ep we get sloppy crude faceless characters, the next ep looks like it had millions of dollars pored right into it.
>>33711 stuff like this comes across less shocking and more funny when they've already had tons of faceless characters thanks to corner cutting.
How has there been so little Shiranui in this anime?
Laffey is ugly and stupid!
>>33533 It's spelt AZURE LANE. Silly Jap spelling.
>>34003 It's Azur in French.
>>34003 That's something which keeps confusing me too. >>34005 Maybe, but France isn't exactly known for it's battle ships.
>>34007 >but France isn't exactly known for it's battle ships. They were still one of the major naval powers in that era(and even now to a degree being one of the few nations to still operate aircraft carriers).
>>34008 Fascinating!
Going with a SoL for the new series was a good call.
>>34008 It frustrates me that france is known for the "losing to germany" meme over here in the U.S. Meanwhile France is one of, if not the only considerable military powers of europe in the modern world. They just don't flaunt it all the time so people tend to not take them seriously. But France has more nukes than anyone besides the Big Two and arguably has the only proper supercarrier in the mediterranean. If the U.S. were to ever fall they would be the last line of defense.
>>35337 Yup, Germany may be the economic powerhouse of the EU, but France is the one that doesn't have a dilapidated military. That and the Foreign Legion.
It really is.
This is the new series compared to the old one in a nutshell.
Something like this was bound to happen sooner or later. ...and that doesn't make it any less amusing.
>>35329 I've never cared much the azur lane gacha or anime, but these SoL shorts are very nice – fun, relaxed, and "cute girls doing cute things" in their purest form.
>>35424 Yeah it's extremely well done, which is weird because the original/main anime was such a train wreck.
>>35424 The slice of life parts of the game were the best parts. All the gritty serious war stuff is lame.
>>33533 >Azur Lane Azure Lane. Damn mis-spelling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WneKi-KL2mI
>>33603 What would be better is if AZURE LANE is spelt properly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6HFgXISBic
>>35499 >Azure Lane It would have been if microsoft had been part of the production committee
