I just watched the 1st episode and it felt reminiscent of Dragon Maid. It'll be nice having this to comfort me each week.

I was also reminded of the NHK thread below this. I feel if you're going to do "mysterious girl appears out of thin air and saves person/worker from hikkidom/loneliness" plot you may as well go full-on with the idea like Dragon Maid or this show, and make the entire show explicitly about that capitalizing on the comforting aspects, rather than half-assing it like NHK.

It's weird this was the only show out of so many this season I was somewhat looking forward to. It's blatant escapism and wish fulfillment junk food of an anime, but I'm okay with that. They don't pretend it's anything it isn't. Doesn't really leave much to say about the first ep though. It's a small nitpick but it's bit disappointing to hear them say she's indebted to his family at one point. The idea of these gods coming down to help lucky individuals in need would be a nice concept, but instead it seems this is leaning more on returning a favor of some sort. Much like harem anime that instead of going with the "this could happen to anyone" idea, they instead have MCs which are very special cases and I feel that sucks a bit of the fun and magic out of escapism material where the viewer might be wishing the same could happen to them, only it wont because they didn't do X thing when they were 5 years old to trigger the event latter in life.

I do have to wonder how depressing this would be for some of the people this was directed at. It might be a fantasy, but people can just as easily look at this and see a reminder of what they'll never even come close to having.

But don't escapists like the idea of being special or being "the chosen one"?

If I were that guy I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself. I would be overwhelmed with dread while wondering how long this can last and as such would avoid getting too attached or letting myself get too happy.

Plenty of people do, yeah. Everyone wants to be the over powered self insert character with a personal harem in those stories. I just think it's easier to insert yourself into said character if there aren't a bunch of prerequisite flags you need to have cleared beforehand, which might now impossible to do.

I do but that doesn't mean I can relate or self insert and enjoy these things in comfort.

Although I often try I can't even manage to fantasize about being "the chosen one." These dreams are automatically course corrected into more realistic stuff better known as nightmares.
I'm just aware of the awful reality all the time and it really hurts. Trying to imagine something better is like turning up the contrast. It only makes the pain sharper.
I like the idea of being special, I want to be, but in the end I only get visions of failing, being humiliated, rejected, hated, getting ousted from the role of "the chosen one" by Chad Thundercock et cetera et cetera.

Like >>32795 said it's incredibly depressing for me.
Then there's so many people who see "escapism" as sin so even when I'm doing my best not to imagine anything horrible I'll often stumble upon opinions of normaldric weeaboo thought police who would love to shit all over me for even attempting to dream about life that's not a horrible nightmare. Jesus it's like there's no escape from misery.

Sure is lucky for this fur fetishist that the helpful god who happens to drop in to take care of him is a fox with a big fluffy tail and not some other type of animal god thing.

I thought tail fluffing was/could be a euphemism for sex especially with the conspicuously odd phrasings the subs use (e.g. "tail fluffing all night")

You're probably right. It's hard to imagine what's his face not even so much as thinking about fucking these foxes. The set up does feel like something out of a porno, but I really rather not see things get lewd here and instead stay comfy.

I watched the first episode last week. Maybe my brain is fried and I can't concentrate, but I barely got through it. I see the appeal in theory, but I don't know how they can stretch 12 episodes out of it.

I don't think I've ever seen a corndog in an anime before. Interesting how they call it an "Amerucan dogu"

>If I were that guy I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself.
The latest episode did in fact touch on this. The way MC just dismisses the issue that Senko is probably projecting her feelings/guilt over his ancestor onto him quite unsatisfying emotionally.

But on the other hand the reason he gave is ultimately practical and I don't fault him for just being content with Senko's company. Even though it may only be a facade, having Senko around is probably more comforting for him than not having anyone at all, much in the same way watching the show provides the viewer with comforting escapism.

I noticed that, and it seems they doubled down on it for ep8. I guess they must have figured many viewers were thinking the same thing. So it's nice to see them address it. Like they say it doesn't really help things to worry about good times coming to an end and you shouldn't let that stop you from enjoying the moment.

At this point, any sane person who isn't a complete and total bitch would just hang up the phone.
