Oh my, so much new information and yet so many lingering questions in this episode

* What's up with Ryo/Ryoku (and presumably Riku) sharing the same body
* Why did Rin turn into Ryo in the final scene?
* Wakaba is a "human form" and at this point it's somewhat well established he's made from green kemurikusa but the details are still vague
* Ryo mentioned she gave her eyes to Rin.

Have we seen Wakaba or Rin sparkle yet? The characters seem to sparkle when discussing what drives them in life/what they enjoy doing, and that seems to be at least one recurring theme.

Ritsu sparkled when she discussed how she finds joy in raising Midori. For Rin I'm guessing it's protecting the sisters, but I don't recall if she ever sparkled when discussing this. And for Wakaban, while he takes an interest in almost everything, I'm guessing he'll only recognize what he likes most near the end of the series.

So, just a theory here but I'm guessing this anime takes place in the future after some sort of alien invasion? Maybe they created the redfog as a weapon to kill off all the humans and corrupt their technology?

Catching up again after dropping it for awhile and I'm really starting to like it.

That was actually pretty sad. At least they didn't use the shattering leaves effect in the ED (yet). Wasn't surprising that they did something like that with the silhouettes but I still really liked how they connected the ED in this episode.

Also I wonder if the "ship" they're talking about is just the flying crane or the whole construct he's building the islands on and that the show takes place on.
In the latter case, it might be something like a spaceship or satellite that was supposed to be a new world for humans. Which means they could also be still alive on earth and just watching that whole mess.

I think the only questions that are really still lingering are who erased the pages in the notebook, how's Rin going to save Wakaban now, what will happen to Ritsu and the others, and what will happen to beloved Shiro.

It's true that in terms of worldbuilding much about the "alien race" that Wakaba-san is from is unknown and what exactly Kemurikusa is wasn't fully answered. But I don't think those really need to be in order for it to be a complete story since the primary focus isn't really on the alien race, and we have learned enough about the functionality of kemurikusa so we can follow along, even if we will never know exactly what it is (though one could venture that it's some sort of bio/nano tech). And hopefully we'll see a bit more of kemurikusa in action next episode.

But still even having to resolve the above 4 things makes for a pretty packed next episode. I'm anxious to see how it's going to be pulled off. There's also a chance we might get additional short ONAs or something after the season ends

You might want to mark the image as a spoiler.

It should be kept in mind that Riri is essentially a child, and despite her precocious knowledge of kemurikusa-alchemy I doubt she knew how virulently the red strain would overtake their ship. Her motives were perhaps a bit selfish but well intentioned considering she has no one else (she was resurrected from the dead so it's likely anyone she knew was gone) and Wakaba was working himself to death before her eyes.

Fair point. I tend to err on the conservative side for marking (maybe a bit more than needed) but as above anon noted that image reveals a central plot point (especially since this is a show that really relies on the worldbuilding and mystery elements) and it's easy for someone to unintentionally glance at it while scrolling through the board.

Episode 12 finale out. What'd you guys think?

I felt pretty satisfied with the ending, and it wrapped up nicely without leaving too many loose ends. I still would've liked to have known more about what the ship was but I suppose that's sort of irrelevant in terms of the bigger picture. Hopefully we'll get a 12.1 short or something with them exploring earth.

In terms of the editing of the episode itself though it didn't feel quite as up to par as the rest of the series. There was one section during the fight with red root where the audio was notably off from what was happening on screen. And there were several instances of dialogue where I had to go back and rewatch several times in order to fully understand what was going on, although that may just be my fault.

Also Rin's smile is adorable

>> No. 32649 [Edit]
Okay, so it's all over now.

I was kind of disappointed with it the ending but then I didn't expected much after episode 11. There wasn't really anywhere to go from there as they had already explained things and really the only thing left to do was beat the tree and of course that went about as cliche and predictable as I expected it would too. After the fight was not much better, it would have ben nice to cut to a year in the future where they have settled and are living peacefully, it doesn't feel like it has ended really yet I know it won't get a season 2.

Overall I think the series had potential but didn't make much use of it, the world building wasn't very good it was far too vague, there were some good characters but they often didn't make much use of them I liked hood girl and school uniform girl but they inly appear briefly and die in the end

>What'd you guys think?
I know it's to be expected, but I also thought the animation and audio quality was noticeably lacking for this ep. It was very clearly out of sync in many areas too. I assume that because this was the last ep and it had to have a big final, they must have really struggled to get it finished in time. Maybe they'll fix it up for a BD release?

>Hopefully we'll get a 12.1
Do you want the director to get fired? That's how you get directors fired!

>>32649
Yeah it did feel a bit incomplete but I don't mind them leaving a few things open and in the air. Leaves a bit more room for theorizing. Like you said though ep11 covered most of the stuff that really mattered. I'm still not sure what Kemurikusa are or where they come from, but for the sake of the story it's whatever.

Yeah it shouldn't be too hard. And they can probably even re-render some of the scenes if needed. I feel that rapid motion isn't a strong point of Tatsuki's current animation style (the opening scene in KF1 (jumping across the savanna) was also pretty meh). Hopefully it'll improve with practice.

>That's how you get directors fired!
Heh. Was it ever known what exactly got Tatsuki fired? People often attribute it to that 12.1 short but supposedly he had obtained permission beforehand. Some believe it was instead due to Mine's influence and a disagreement about the direction of the show?

Now that it's over I have been checking the artworks of it and I am surprised. Even though it was made by the director of Kemono Friends and in many ways is similar to it there is only a tiny amount of artwork for it. It sounds like it really didn't do well which surprised me.

Kemono friends had a much much larger verity of cute friends. It was practically begging for fan art and collectable toys/merch. Kemurikusa is more about the story, journey, and exploration of the world. There's not nearly as much to work with here, and what is here isn't going to be as fun to draw.

>It doesn't really explain anything
It appears that Riku and co. now live in some sort of Kemurikusa memory buffer, where objects exist in some sort of kemurikusa-limbo before being "extracted"/physically printed. This does hint at the direction for an S2: find some way to trigger the printing mechanism and escape the limbo? Since labcoat Wakaba is in the limbo as well, might Riri be in there somehow? And does this mean that they can all somehow be united at the end?

Definitely an interesting direction for S2 if they plan to pursue it. Very clever that what seemed like a throwaway line at the end of ep 12 (Riku saying something about the leaf being big) turned out to be a big hint at the direction of the next season.

The OST was released. There's a "secret track" (that's the literal title) which is a version of Indeterminate Universe sung by all of the sisters (the previous version had only the main sisters).
