Story is about a guy working in a anti-'New Game!' game dev, falls asleep, and dreams about being in the RPG he's been working on.

So far everything about the first ep feels lazy and half assed. Here I was wondering what "Real world guy finds himself in an rpg and lives out a fantasy #4,543,693" would be doing to set itself apart from the crowd, and the answer so far is absolutely nothing. Bit early to tell so far, but the first ep was ...well not even by the numbers, it was bellow them. They spent half the first ep in the real world when it was completely unnecessary. I get it, his life is hard and his coworkers are lazy assholes. No need to waste so much time on establishing that. Knights and magic knocked it out in like two minutes. Step up your game Death March. I spent the first half of this ep wondering when the hell the guy was gonna get killed off already or whatever, but then it turns out he never did. He just goes to bed and wakes up in the game. Can you think of a lammer way to drop the mc off into the other world?

I'm no expert here in mmos or rpgs, but in my experience I've found that killing a higher level enemy in a game will get you some decent xp sure, but you quickly get diminishing returns the more of them you kill. I can see killing one lv50 lizard man taking you up to lv 15 right away, Killing a second might take you up to like lv 25, the third to around -lv30 and each one after raising your level less and less as you kill more. I guess it depends on what kind of system they got, what kind of bonuses they have for new players, if there's a hot streak or combo system or what.. but it just feels wrong that killing something like 40 lv50 lizard would take you to level 350+ and give you OP god like abilities in a game.

I'm very tired of these "you wake up in another world and discover that you are not the loser you once were: You are THE HERO!!!!" (and it's always meant to be a bland self-insert character) series.

It feels like there have been at least 20 produced of these things in the past year.

At my most paranoid I wonder if it's an attempt to get impressionable otaku to commit suicide because they believe they'll go to "the other world" thus purging society of undesirables.

It's the same idea as most religions, the idea that when you die you go to some paradise. For otaku I guess living in a generic rpg is heaven.

What else is there when you're a fat aging shut in who's probably never had a girlfriend or known a day of work in your life? For many otaku there's no turning back or fixing their lives. Aquiring a magic power or meeting up with childhood friends wont change any of that. A hard reset is the best one can hope for after a certain point.

Anyways, this anime takes a tired old played out concept and takes the most half assed lazy approach they can to it. It's pretty much paint by numbers the animation. I can't recommend it to anyone, not when there's a dozen anime doing the exact same thing but better.

I've been playing mmos like an moron for like 20 years and I have never encountered an mmo where you'd be able to level up to such a high level with so little farming, no matter how strong the enemy is. This goes specially for asian mmos which tend to be very grindy. The only exception is private (pirate) servers that increase experience rates x-fold.

While the concept is played out, one little thing it does that I do like is the almost ever present UI and notifications. They act as a friendly reminder this is a game we're seeing here and how the MC is viewing this world. Where as with sword art it became easy to forget they were in a game since anything game related only showed up when the plot called for it. Along with this guy's nearly endless supply of skill points and resources it's almost like playing an rpg with cheat engine on the side maxing out all your values. Of course that does tend to make games a bit boring after the initial trill passes but works better in this format, even if it's been done to death.

If nothing else, they seem to know their audience pretty well at least.

The ever-present UI is indeed a nice touch.
