It has the magic of the first series.

There's a good amount more CGI than I would have liked, but it's only really jarring in the first scene so far.

I was going to make this thread, but I got lazy and forgot. Orz

Anyway, it doesn't seem too bad. It unfortunately doesn't seem to follow up on the first series however.

The second episode was a basterdised version of the Colosseum episodes in the first series.

Apparently, this series will be a selection of fan favorite stories or something from what I've read.

>The second episode was a basterdised version of the Colosseum episodes in the first series.

I thought the original drug that one out a lot longer than needed to begin with; I was quite happy for it to be condensed. They also changed up a lot of stuff.

After hearing Kino's firearm have an airsoft sound of being fired, I was ready for all of the fighting to be done with and get back to the exploration of new countries and such.

Well, if they are going to do the fan favorites, It looks like we are guaranteed to get Kino's story growing up with him showing up in the OP.

Got any source on that or it's the usual ''an anonymous said...'' story as usual?
Because more than fan favorites it could be like one or the two Kino no Tabi manga adaptations who simply adapts random episodes from the novel.

The thing is that they cut out too much and the part where Kino made the rule makes it seems like she set that one country into a war zone for no real reason with the chance that somebody just like the old king would take the throne. It just feels like they cut out some nice details along with the fat that was in the two episodes at the expense of showing that Kino was good with her gun and knew how to read her opponents, along with the fact that she didn't really want to kill unnecessarily. Even if the whole rule thing kind of contradicted it.

Gotta say, this ending bothered me a tad. I can't remember if the original version ended this way (I think it did?) but I think it bothered me just as much then as it did now. Didn't Kino have some sort of self imposed 'Prime Directive' style rule? It's been a while but I think in the original she essentially destroyed a civilization due to her none action in what could have been prevented with just a few words. So it's concerning to see her purposefully throw a country into complete anarchy out of revenge. The pond scene and discussion that followed suggests she might have regretted her actions, but it was also implied she had a lot of time to think and plan about what she was going to do. It was very much so premeditated. She refuses to kill the other contestants even when they ask for death, but doesn't hesitate to put actions into effect that get countless people killed. You could argue that people who enjoy watching people kill each other and rooted for someone's death might deserve to be placed in the same situation, but the fighting and killing wouldn't stop at the Colosseum. Innocent people would get dragged into it too, people living in that country before the fights were put in place seven years prior. Maybe the pond scene was her realizing she sentenced countless innocent people to death? If so that was poorly illustrated. More likely I doubt she cares, which is what makes it bothersome to watch. Maybe her world would have been a bit better off if she let her home town lobotomies her? Just a thought.

Yeah that was really distracting. I get guns aren't easily aquired in japan, but would it have killed them to buy a stock gunshot effect? There's probably none-copyright free to use sound clips all over the internet.

Then in ep 3 she joins a mobile country that literally leaves a trail of destruction everywhere it goes and aids them as they invade another country that was only defending themselves. All while ignoring criticism and patting themselves on the back at the end while justifying their actions based purely on unreasonable assumptions. "yeah fuck those guys and their wall, they were probably robbing travelers and would probably make me their sex slave for passage or something." Sure they didn't kill anyone, but who knows what threats the wall was protecting them from. Titans, natural disasters like sand storms or floods, The Mongolians, who knows?

She entered that country with the exact intention of getting past the prairie country, as they wanted kino to give up her automatic pistol as payment for passage.

The ship country was quite good. Lots of Shizu development. A bit stupid how he talks about repairing the parts in the room, and then does a 180 and tells everybody to abandon ship, but I guess the plot needed the prince to taste failure so he can properly continue down the road to becoming a king.

Speaking of, there are enough females following him to start a love triangle. I'm curious how that is going to derail 2ch threads, as well as pixiv/booru content.

I'll never understand Japan's views when it comes to owning people as property. It really makes no sense.
If they buy a car, they keep it running and fairly well maintained.
If they buy a horse, they take good care of it with a stable and a pasture to ride it around.
Hell, even with animals raised explitly to be slaughtered for meat, they treat them very well and off them as humanely as possible while maintaining the quality of the meat.

But if they buy anything human or meant to be similar to a human (i.e. robots in Eve no Jikan), they just treat them like shit, like their only purpose in life is to be mistreated and then killed, and the slave should be happy to be given the opportunity to die.

Well, shit.
There goes my theory that kino (along with other travelers) had schizophrenia and were just imagining their bike or dog or whatever talking. No one other than travelers ever seems to talk to these things directly and people usually don't respond to what the bike says. So much for that.

I was thinking the exact same thing, It makes no sense. On the one hand you've got these people being excessively cruel for no reason to another person, a girl none the less. It's amazing enough as is that these people wouldn't hesitate to treat them the way they do, they act more like bandits or pirates than traveling merchants. Even if they're all sick in the head, why prod the bull like that? They made a point of talking to her about the possibility of her killing them in their sleep or some such. How about you treat them like a human and don't give them a reason to want to watch you die a slow painful death?
On the other hand there is the fact they're merchants, and she's essentially a product. If they don't like or want that product, then they just sell it off somewhere else or just not accept her in the first place. If you're selling to someone who can't pay and offers you something you don't want, why not take your business somewhere else or take some other form of payment like goods or materials. I'm left wondering if this is some sort of twisted and misguided perception of what western slavery was like, mixed together with some possible frustration venting fantasy like you see with all their violent rape and gore porn that doesn't reflect their reality. I have noticed that too with robots, but it's not like western people don't mistreat them too in media. If anything the treatment of robots/androids in western media is far worse as they're almost always considered evil abominations that must be destroyed before they kill all humans.
That said, not to sound like an SJW here but Asian cultures have been known to not be too kind to women, but this was nothing compared to that.

Also, she said the priest possibly sent her out to see the world with these people. So how exactly would someone like that know which native plants are toxic when the traveling merchants who picked the plants out don't? This didn't look like it was their first time eating out in the open like that, and they said they had visited that town regularly. So some orpin girl who never left that city would know the land better than traveling merchants who pass over that land regularly? Also, the fuck is up with them looking and acting like rich nobles on holiday? No traveling merchant looks like that, treats their products like that, would accept worthless goods as payment, or knows that little about the land they're on. I sure don't remember Lawrence being a wealthy retard for example.

And the fuck is this kid? Overkill much? They dialed this kid up to 11. On what planet is torturing and mutilating a defenseless slave to death something that would help you become a good man who can protect others and blah blah blah? How about you start by protecting the person right there everyone's beating on for no good reason? There's gotta be a limit to how much you can spoil your kid, Jesus. They were raising him to be another king Joffrey.

I toss this up to it being the problem with anime/manga. More specifically, the audience this stuff is made for. They take things to these insane extremes because most fans aren't exactly that bright. Most anime fans need everything to be blatant and spelled out for them. Such as a character's motivations, feelings, plan of action, what's happening in the scene and so on. In this case it means slavery = bad, slaves = innocent, slave owners = evil. You can't be subtle when half of your viewers are autistic.

Usually for the battle-shounen demographic. The viewers of battle-shounen are normies, even in Japan.
More niche anime tends to have obscure references to stuff like Greek mythology et cetera, which blows over most people's heads.

It's good to see a 1:1 episode from the original season, and it was executed very well.

Yeah it wasn't done half bad, but it was a bit lost on me having known the story already. All the same I really had to wonder. Couldn't they have dug trenches and/or build walls to channel the lava away from their town? Why see it as start over or die, why not evacuate then rebuild on the same exact spot? Seems more than a bit fucked up for parents to not tell their kids and let them die, don't parents usually put their kids before themselves and try to protect them at all costs as a natural instinct?

Has this country never had to deal with kids who get cold feet at the last minute? Seems like it would be fairly common no matter the conditioning. Real world kids freak the fuck out about needles and vaccination no matter how much people talk it down, imagine how those same kids would act if we lived in a world where we cut their heads open and removed chunks of their brain.

The idea doesn't even seem nearly as far fetched as the concepts in other episodes. In fact part of me feels like our world could due with something similar when seeing the types of people who have the nerve to call themselves adults these days with their moronic "I can't adult today" bullshit. No one wants to grow up and do sucky jobs that have to be done. We're stuck with all these entitled hipsters all fighting each other over the exact same few high paying careers while convinced they're too good for anything less. Then they've got the nerve to cry and complain about the economy when they don't get their dream job. Some surgically implanted maturity is what the lot of them need.

All I know is she picked the worst possible time to bring it up. After living in that country for 12 years you'd think she'd know how big of a deal the surgery is, and she should have an idea what her parents are like and how they might react. Instead she comes out in front of a group of people, one of which seems to be in a position of power. The hell was she thinking?
