Well, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. That's certainly something

I don't like how the magic aspect is mostly thrown away for Ippo-style fights, but we'll see.

Rinne sending the girl to the hospital due a broken ego was incredibly amusing.

it was getting a bit difficult to suspend disbelief in that none of the teachers or faculty were aware of any of the bullying happening, especially when the school's property was damaged, but all's well that ends well.

In any case, Fuuka's time going from 10-14 years old was a lot rougher than Rinne's, yet we get to spend the next episode with everybody apologizing to Rinne and feeling sorry for how rough she had things.

>none of the teachers or faculty were aware
This sort of thing is so common place in japan it has me wondering if the teachers know about it but don't care or do anything, as long as no one kills themselves and gives the school a bad rep.
>> No. 27253 [Edit]
>>27221
It was a fair bit more than just a broken ego, and those little shits had it coming.

I also agree however that she didn't have it nearly as bad. Rinne got adopted by a wealthy loving family, never had to worry about having a roof over her head or where her next meal was coming from. Even got sent to a nice school. So a couple little shits gave her a hard time there, happens to almost everyone at school sooner or latter. As it was stated before she could have just gone to the teachers when things started getting really bad and property was being destroyed. It's not like she didn't know who to blame. And don't say she didn't want her parents to find out and risk troubling them, because cellphones and school supplies don't grow on trees.

Fuuka on the other hand was living on the streets and struggling to survive for years while fighting with thugs and gangs. She was clearly happy just to have a bed to sleep in. There's no comparing the two at all.

....Did they really just use a 1941 Oldsmobile Sedan to kidnap a little girl in broad daylight on a busy city street?
Why and how are a couple of no good punks who hang out in front of deli(?) driving around in a 75 year old car?
A van makes sense, vans are cheap, common place, and are easy to jump in/out of quickly.... but a 1941 Oldsmobile? seriously?!

and now we are back to the magic aspect being thrown away almost completely.

even the protection stuff that made injuries not actually happen is out.

The magic stuff being selectively applied at times and forgotten at others, and very inconsistently, makes the show feel like a shitty fanfic.

Everyone else is pretty light hearted, save for Rinne. I odn't really mind it that much, because the show would be boring if there was no kind of conflict. Everyone at Nakajima gym gets along too well with everyone else, so there would be no tension.

Keep in mind that this is a different kind of tournament than the Intermiddle, the one in Vivid. There's a lot less magic involved. People aren't throwing magic at each other in a strike arts tourney, so there's no need for that level of damage reduction.

I had mixed feelings about this fight. I like Vivio, but I find Rinne a lot more relatable and grounded as a character. It seems she just can't catch a break. It's like the universe won't be satisfied until she's completely broken down and her will destroyed. It makes me want to root for her more, though I'm not sure if that's what the writer was intending.

I've always disliked the moral high ground being used as a replacement for skill in fights. I'm rooting for Rinne sololy out of spite at this point, but we both know the writers don't have the balls to send Fuuka packing and keep that promise.

I only wish that there was more to Rinne's reasoning than her being shallow and wallowing in self-pity.

Personally, I find her far from shallow. She easily has more depth than almost the entire cast. Certainly more than Vivio, the MC of Vivid. Technically, no one has been able to prove her wrong so far. She may lose the fights, but she never loses the debates. I want to see how Rinne and Einhart interact, as they have a lot of similarities.

She also has more backstory than all of the vivids sans viveo combined.
Shallow was a poor choice in words, more of her being stubborn in a really stupid sort of way.

Well yeah, that pretty much applies to all of us though. Almost everyone has at least one thing that they're stubborn about. The main issue is that she blames herself for everything and takes it all on alone, but that's just part of her character. Some of the characters keep trying to tell her she's living her life wrong, but she's free to live how she wants since she's not hurting anyone else (outside of the ring). Beating her until she's broken is far from the answer. I'm not sure what I'll do with this show if Fuuka beats and is portrayed as morally correct.

Not quite, the girls bullied her out of jealousy to punish her for becoming a rich girl belonging to a powerful family when she was originally a lowly orphan.

Fuuka is pummeling her because she cares about her and wants to save her.

very different.

It's not that you are missing something, but the writing is poor to the extent that you have to figure out what they were trying to go for to understand it.

The writers tried to have it set up such that she was doing that all along and never realized it until Fuuka beat some sense into her and she realizes it all at once and has her personality turn 90 degrees.

I agree, they were like a completely different person. The whole ep felt very awkward. With all the baggage they had, you'd think it'd take more than a few eps to beating the living shit out of each other to go back to how things used to be. It'd be a step in the right direction though.

If she was at least a little upset/depressed over losing her chances at the championship title twice, in the same year, it wouldn't have bothered me as much. However, just having her casually smile it all off, as if it didn't happen, feels nothing short of contrived. Then, add insult to injury, she gets a front row seat to watch Fuuka in the finals. The final episode was pretty much a slap in the face to anyone that liked Rinne as a character. All of that character development and training for nothing.
>> No. 27561 [Edit]

Pretty much. If I didn't know better I'd think there was an ep missing between 11 and 12 where she struggled to come to terms everything that happened and/or had a complete mental break down leading to their flipped personality and mindset. In fact, I think some brain damage as a result of that fight would have the ending make almost perfect sense. No way that would be cannon of course but in this case the cannon is like a long wank that ends in erectile dysfunction.
>> No. 27562 [Edit]

Apparently there's going to be an OVA, where Rinne and Jill get additional focus, but I think the damage is already done. Tsuzuki is far from being new to writing, so it's a bit sad when even a series like Keijo has better written characters.
