How is your blue-ray or DVD collection like?
Expand all images
>> No. 18483 [Edit]
Actually, I just own a few Evangelion DVDs that I "inherited", so to say it. The rest is all piracy.
>> No. 18485 [Edit]
Non-existent. But I used to have a sizable manga collection before circumstances compelled me to throw it away.
>> No. 18487 [Edit]
lol, I have a couple movie DVDs and a Soul Eater box set. That's it. I really don't care about physical media.
>> No. 18491 [Edit]
Only Serial Experiments Lain. It came with Blu Rays and DVDs packaged together with an art book. I'm thinking about getting Japanese BRs of Haibane Renmei and 5 Centimetres Per Second.
>> No. 18504 [Edit]
Uh, I have a hard drive with lots of shows on it.

That sounds like a nice collection to have. If I were to ever buy some physical BD/DVDs, Lain and 5cmps would be top priorities. I don't expect I ever will, though.

Anime fans that don't own discs of anime. How sad...
>> No. 18532 [Edit]
I don't have one.

I don't have anything.
>> No. 18537 [Edit]
The only anime DVD I own is EoE. I pirate all the rest of my anime.
>> No. 18662 [Edit]
Well I don't have anything which could play DVD or BD so I don't buy them much. I have only one BD. I rather buy original manga or LN.
>> No. 18664 [Edit]
Some day circumstances might compell me to do the same; at least store it away somewhere out of sight. It's a bit embarrassing to display these pockets. The only pockets I have that are worth looking at to this day would be Socrates in Love, Gunslinger Girl, Honey and Clover and "Sunshine Sketch". Some of the covers on these other pockets are outright shameful for a number of reasons.

Except my "collection" is anything but sizable.

Right now? You can already buy a fully-assembled reprap for less than US$2000
>> No. 21280 [Edit]
Too expensive for shit quality results.
>> No. 21284 [Edit]
who would 3D print a figure? it would be like having a bootleg version
>> No. 21287 [Edit]
Well, you only mentioned "easily available". Not "easily available, cheap and with industrial-quality results".
Plus, a reprap kit goes for less than 1k if you're willing to do the assembly.

Do you mean in terms of quality or in terms of somehow hurting the IP holders?
The former definitely holds and will do so for a couple of decades I think. The latter, as long as the models are fan made and not ripped off from official material, I couldn't care less(even though most IP holders will claim it hurts them not having a monopoly over that).
>> No. 21289 [Edit]
If something is not cheap it is not 'easily available'.
>> No. 21290 [Edit]
How so? Both cars and computers aren't cheap, and yet, if I felt so inclined, I could buy one(not necessarily brand new) by taking a 15 min walk to the nearest store or even order one online.
Here we have a 3D printer that isn't cheap but is supplied worldwide by some manufacturers, has completely open specifications for whoever wants to assemble one and a good chunk of the parts can be printed by anyone with a 3D printer. How's that not easily available?

Q: why are there so many rori/moe/otome shows?
A: they spent money on merchandise

Q: where is your sci-fi/action show?
A: nowhere because you didn't buy any the first time & definitely didn't contribute to the funding.

I want BD of「君の名は。」"Kimi no namae wa"
>> No. 27080 [Edit]
Not a lot. Most of them are US boxsets, like some of the "orange box" season sets for DBZ, Outlaw Star, Gurren Lagann, and Cowboy Bebop. I've got a few scattered Yu Yu Hakusho DVDs (both R1 and R2), the first 13 episodes of the Digimon Adventure dub on DVD (barf), and a few Slayers DVDs.

I've also got the complete set of Powerpuff Girls along with its few movies, and an R3 Taiwanese release of Ojamajo Doremi #. I also used to have Motto Ojamajo Doremi, but I gave it to a friend as a gift.

I'd love to get all of Ojamajo on DVD but it would cost me something like $4000 to get everything since it's rare, out of print, and Japanese DVDs are always overpriced. The BDs of season 1 are coming out in a month but that alone is several hundred dollars for a shitty upscale with broken colors like Digimon Adventure.

Oh yeah, I've also got Hong Kong, region-free pirated DVDs of the complete set of Yu Yu Hakusho and Cardcaptor Sakura. The YYH subtitles are Duwang as fuck, while CCS is passable. But I loaned CCS to a friend whom I haven't seen since high school.

This is why I'm glad torrents and IRC exist. DVDs are too expensive unless they happen to see a US release. I can justify $30 for a 50 episode show, but not $550.

It's a very aesthetic figure imo. I'd buy it if I had the money to spare and didn't need anything else.

Unrelated to this thread, but: I won't. It looks boorish for my taste, with all her features grotesquely exaggerated.

Flare's 2B is a must for me, though. I also own SE's Black Box 2B and 9S which, despite being so small, are nicely sculpted and very well dettailed.

It appears it's getting harder and harder to find a show which cannot be seen in the US, what with a few companies like Discotek rescuing old OVAs and the streaming market taking care of almost all the new series. Netflix got Neon Genesis Evangelion, finally. Unfortunately, outside of the Anglosphere the situation is not as great - still many countries where piracy or jumping through hoops to import even the US releases is the only way to see shows old and new alike.

Aichi-based company Be-full's character figure brand Pulchra has started accepting pre-orders for a 1/7 scale "angel version" figure of Origami Tobiichi from the Date A Live franchise, based on a newly-drawn illustration of her by the novel's illustrator Tsunako.

Pre-orders for the 17,064 yen (about 154 US dollars) are received on Pulchra's official online store & Amazon Japan until May 7. The 245 mm-tall pre-painted item's scheduled shipping date is late November 2019.

I'm thinking of buying a blue-ray, from amazon since that's where I buy most things, just because I like the anime so much, but I have few concerns. First I'd like to know my purchase actually gives money to the studio that produced it, second I don't have a blue-ray player and I'm not sure how great a usb one is in terms of latency and tv compatibility.
>> No. 36329 [Edit]
USB is fine, latency isn't an issue because of read-ahead. I'll let someone who's more familiar with the revenue ecosystem to comment on whether buying a bluray is the best way to directly support the studio.
