This show is cliche and generic as fuck, but there's something strangely entertaining about it. If I had to try and pinpoint it I'd say it's a cross between the nice setting and charming characters. I do have to admit the mecha feel a bit out of place, but seeing them laying around as construction tools is a detail that helps a bit.

What possible reason could the kidnappers have for removing her boots and pinning one of them to a dartboard with a knife? From what I could tell it's not like they want to ransom her or hold her hostage, in fact it seems like they couldn't give less of a shit about the other people around her, so why leave them clues or evidence about kidnapping her? why even leave a perfectly good knife behind? Even for the sake of the plot it's pointless, that rock snake thing saw them kidnap her and went to tell the protag what happened.

He also wrecked the place for no particular reason, given the girl wasn't putting up any resistance. That's just his personal touch, I suppose.

It certainly seems well within character for that mercenary type to trash the place for fun, but past that is just weird.

My best guess is the creators just wanted a simple excuse to revert back to the original character design.
Just seems like a really odd detail to highlight is all. I wouldn't have even brought it up if they didn't end the ep by focusing on it.

Why do all the flashbacks to the war not have any mecha in them? Seems like they're standard issue now, but that war couldn't have been more than 10-15 years ago and they're seen fighting with some rather outdated weapons by even our word's standard.
