Liking it so far. The nice art and the folk-ish music really hit my feels.
Makes me want to replay the VN and watch the original.

Speaking of which I wonder how it all will tie in with them. From the looks of it we're a few generations down in the future. Haku either is one of the original humans and was somehow spared, which also means earth is habitable to them again or he is one experiment that succeeded but we never heard about.
And from the OP it seems like someone else somehow has the mask, but judging from the anime name he's not god either and I'm betting he'll be the main antagonist.

Still, I hope we'll get one or two more episodes to finish introducing everybody and tying up with the past and then get going for the main plot.

Kinda surprised to see some of the characters from the original make an appearance. With how characters act I somehow got the impression things here took place decades after the original, not just a few years. I forget the exact backstory of this setting something about lab animals escaping into the wild and dominating the world while evolving into humanoids or something? but it's kinda funny how they developed a culture which is so extremely Japanese, from the style of government to everyday life. Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that, but it might have been nice if this world has it's own unique culture.

More or less that, yes: Humans fucked up the planet and lived underground, they found some dude encased in ice and performing experiments on his genes created a breed of catpeople that could withstand the condition on the surface of the planet. The ice dude had some elder god in him and went batshit on how stupid the humans were and destroyed their facility, humans were turned into the jelly things we saw on the first ep and the animal girls were freed and repopulated the earth
And well, Tusukuru at least is more ainu-like than japanese. Guess it can't be helped, it's a japanese series after all.

Dickhead general is gonna fuck up things badly, unsurprisingly enough. That he got to keep his post and reputation intact only makes the ship episode appear more out of place and irrelevant than ever.

I'm still really annoyed by how they handled things with that guy and how he was introduced. That ep was bad enough with the floating jellyfish that showed up out of nowhere like it was always there, then you got an after credit scene with MC somehow finding himself in this weird place talking to this guy that cuts out and it's apparently a major plot point but they still haven't explained what the fug actually happened there or why no one mentioned it till just then.

Well, that was stupid. From what I get they are both generals and feudal vassals under the emperor, so they probably have an army of their own too, but they order their daughters to just meet with another army without any additional troops instead? And Rurutie didn't even seem to have any military training, maybe her father knows she's rotten and just wants to prum the dynastic tree? Oh, the wonders of japanese animation.

You know, that's just me, but I have the impression that levelling your own cities to the ground and wholesale slaughter of your own people might be a just little bit counterproductive. Doesn't seem to set good prospects for the post-war economy either. But then again, what do I know?

Disaster like that can ''help'' the economy, I mean they have to rebuild half the city.
>> No. 25377 [Edit]
>>25330
I can kinda see the logic in that but I think >>25327 is right. people can rebuild sure but those resources and manpower have to come from somewhere, and if a cities infrastructure has been decimated I would think that would decrease outsiders interests in investing in said city. I'd also think knowing one's own government caused the destruction and killed countless of it's own people without a care would make people not really want to live there anymore. If nothing else I would think many of the survivors would harbor a lot of resentment for their leaders.

I can't help but wonder, if the generals are so powerful that they can single handily destroy waves of enemy soldiers, why waste the lives of regular soldiers in your army? For that matter are other nations completely ignorant of their power? Because if they are they could have avoided this war by having the generals demonstrate their powers for the world to see. Something like a nuclear deterrent. Most people wouldn't fuck with a nation that has Godzilla fighting for them.
>> No. 25379 [Edit]
>>25378
Precisely my thoughts. I mean, I could more or less understand when the protagonists jumped into an ongoing battle and fought their way through a few dozens of guys or so, basic anime stuff.
But then next ep we're shown the generals single-handedly destroying whole armies and levelling cities to the ground. Why even bother with an army then? Instead of sending the left and right generals after Dekoponpo with the cavalry excuse they could've just as well dispatched any other general without their army on a fast carriage.
>> No. 25380 [Edit]
While I knew they'd eventually get into the kaiju territory it still feels really out of place to go from mostly gritty grounded combat to such fantastical over the top stuff. once the war started I was thinking shit's getting real now, slice of life harem fun and games are over. then the war ends like an ep latter with the enemy being completely obliterated. wtf

What a really spoilerworthy episode.

The flashbacks to the last days of the humans were interesting. From the first game I didn't get the impression they lived on big cities, just some smallish research outposts and I thought they all just instantly turned into curses, not that epidemic-like thing.
And I'm still not sure about everything, I suspect there are some inconsistencies somewhere. I thought the maruta were just released on poisoned atmosphere earth when all humans became curses, but now they say there was a giant orbital strike(and I don't really understand why there was one in the first place) that wiped the surface clean and also the underground human cities. It just doesn't seem right that the maruta could both survive the initial attack and then find enough resources on the surface to repopulate earth, even if they could withstand the poisonous atmosphere(which they now say was wiped off with the attack).
And then there's the cherry on top of the cake that apparently the Emperor is after Hakuoro's remains and is possibly willing to go to war against Tusukuru for it. That will of course press Haku to choose between Kuon and his buddies that are loyal to Yamato.
Sounds like the start of a very nice arc. If there's anybody on earth that can stand up to the generals it's the folks who killed fucking god.

And I think we will still hear from the sand jurchens before this ends, that Entua girl looked way too cute not to appear again, and their main leader is still alive.

>> No. 25624 [Edit]
>>25623
Because they were in unknown territory and their guide was just led away with the first cart?
I don't even think they were in control there. Aruruw intentionally baited Kokopo with Mukurr so bird girl(Kamyu? Forgot the name) could pick off the rest of the guys.
>> No. 25625 [Edit]
>>25624
wouldn't it make more sense for the supply train continue on the path they're on? Even without the lead cart there was only one path, their destination didn't seem to be very far, and there's no reason they shouldn't have known where they were going. They could have alternatively tried following them (all be it dangerous) or stayed put till they came back, which begs the question of why they didn't go back.

The new arc seems interesting, even if the event that kickstarted it was really dumb.
Still disappointed the Tusukuru arc barely even got started before they put it on hold to start this one. Hopefully it will tie back (with Munechika returning to protect the princess) to this arc, even better if the Uzurussha return to play a part in it too.

Their destination didn't seen far because a fat chick desperately pursued a giant white tiger downhill and it happened to lead them there. But only Kuon knows how long it would have taken to go through the path she had in mind(which they were following in a very slow pace). All we know is that it involved climbing a hill, then climbing down and possibly wandering a while in the forest.
At any rate the whole discussion is moot since it was an ambush and Kamyu would have picked off the rest of the convoy as soon as Aruruu distracted the main characters, no matter what they chose to do.

This ep made me realize I don't know what's going on with the coup attempt, at first I understood the generals were each trying to take over for themselves, now it seems they have put their differences aside to eliminate the larger threat of Oshutoru and the princess, but some pieces still don't fit:
- They haven't done anything against the general of the left. He seems a bit conflicted since we were never shown him opposing Oshutoru's execution, but he was pretty clearly his buddy and it really doesn't make much sense to let him in the clique.
- Same for Rurutie and Atui's fathers. Both of them were known to be cooperating with Oshutoru's right hand man, and yet they just let them and their fathers free passage into the palace and the meetings?
- Wasn't Rurutie's father a general? One would think as a feudal vassal and general his liege's death would force him to head to the capital no matter what, so where's he?
I'd expect lots of other feudal vassal's and neighboring rulers to attend to the Emperor's funeral and eventually try to make their claims on Yamato too. Even if the generals are completely OP there's only 7 of them now, of which 1 is more of a hindrance than anything, 2 who have their own lands to tend to and the remaining 4 can only do so much to stop border clashes when they are fighting to secure their own position in the capital.

Anyway, the episode was still nice and I'm betting is loads of fun in the game too. Too bad the fuckers at aquaplus are not western weeaboo pirate-friendly and only released it on unemulable platforms.

I think I'm getting close to dropping this. I'm falling further and further behind on it and am having trouble staying interested. Shame too, I really liked the original.

I can't believe among all his crazy ideas shooting the magic caster wasn't one of them.

I'm a bit behind on this but did they ever explain what the deal was with the flying jellyfish or golden figurine? I haven't seen any mention of them yet.

Eh, not sure how I feel about this. On one hand I enjoyed the whole ride, on the other they used a whole season of SoL stuff that not always contributed anything(eg the damn boat episode) and the second half felt rushed as a result. And now to wait until they make the anime for the second half.
Knowing we won't have Kuon in the party anymore sucks too. And it was just too damn convenient that just as she decided to leave suddenly the princess got well again, but like I said before, that whole convo was really forced from the very start.

Oh, and the jellyfish thing made another appearance. I don't know why, but I believe it IS her spear.

I finally finished this off today and the cap sums up my feelings on the anime pretty well.
