a quick glance reveals a surprising (disappointingly large) amount of sequels, not amongst them is flip flappers & watashi blah blah blah which both look promising.
all of the good studios are doing sequels of garbage

This isn't vivid S2.....but close enough, I hope. I sincerely hope, as it's looking to be an anime original plot. My hopes are going to be dashed against the cliff face, aren't they?

and that's not Strike Witches.... but I'll take it. The yuri is supposed to increase significantly as the stories of the other platoons of witches get further from the 501, if the story synopsis are to be believed.

The way vivid ended it seemed like a second season was fully intended and inevitable. If this isn't it and somehow a new story, that's just gonna make the already horrible vivid season even worse by proxy.

I wonder if anime hasn't gotten formulaic to the point that its just not worth watching anymore. Like what happened to hollywood in the late 1980s, when everything was either a remake or a slightly modified version of a previously successful media.
Theres more sequels than new shows this season & the new shows all look exactly like slightly modified previously successful series.

I think it's less about making money and more about playing it safe. We're talking about something with high investment costs with typically low returns. If what they really cared about was money above all else wouldn't it make more sense to produce products that aren't so niche and high risk? For every popular and successful anime there's going to be dozens that flopped or barely broke even.
