8959 No. 8959 [Edit]
Well fuck.
Off into escapism I go. Who will come with me on this journey?
>> No. 8960 [Edit]
No thanks, zeroP is the only good show they got, and their forums are filled with ford drivers.
>> No. 8961 [Edit]
I don't like that cat, he annoys me for some reason.
>> No. 8962 [Edit]
what's going on?

He's cute, why wouldn't you like him.

I don't really know to be honest, I just have some sort of irrational dislike for that cat.

I've been in escapism for like fifteen years, so I'll just meet up with you when you get here.
>> No. 8984 [Edit]
I'm not sure if I want to actually discuss it but what's up with the term 'escapism' (from point of view of semantics)? It doesn't seem to make much sense. I don't feel like I'm really 'escaping' from anything, really. Sometimes it seems like it's just a term people who burdened themselves with responsibilities (family and the like) use to make people who don't feel bad.

Escaping from reality (temporarily). Makes sense to me.
>> No. 8989 [Edit]
>>8984
When the real world becomes unbearable, people escape into thought which dulls sense of the real world. Since running away is not possible, the only available means of escape is the retreat to the head and the unreal world of fantasies and obsessions.

For me the real world is that unbearable because of how dull it is. I'm having one of those painfully boring Sundays when I have nothing else to do but sit on in my room on the pc all day and take in the reality of my situation. Not even much going on online right now to entertain me or take my mind somewhere else. I'm so down right now I can't escape, can't even bring myself to play any pc games for a bit to pass time.

Fuck reality.

But what does 'real world' even mean? Is it any different from what I've written? Because it still sounds like some kind of 'no fun allowed' rule.

Basically having interest in anything fictional counts as escpaism, right? Then why would normals resent it so much? They watch movies, too.

The real world may vary from the way you see things, but I believe it is the system in which you can support yourself entirely and you must take part in involuntarily.
A non-real world would be something like Gensokyo, or what a religion would preach. While normals do also take part in what may be considered escapism, it is only labeled as so when it surpasses the norm of the populace. In that sense it is not entirely arbitrary, and holds value with other social "sciences".

As to why they hate it so much, it may be just a base belief to hate anything that does not conform to their viewpoints. I and others here also share the same sentiment with our dislike of normal society, so it is understandable. Another reason may be the "sink or swim" mentality that is berated into people. Escapism is attributed with people who they don't consider by their standards to be contributing. Even if it is harmless thing to leech at these rates, it's seen as more glaring compared to much larger problems which are kept under wraps. Much of why you see anyone yelling "Muh Tax dollars!" about every little thing.

I think it's really more of a conformity thing than anything else. People who work and support themselves will still get criticized for being too removed from reality or "weird" based on their interests.

The truth, of course, is that by that definition almost everyone in the world is an escapist. Men who get lost in their fantasy football teams, women who read supermarket romance novels, people who go to bars every day after work, people who go to church every Sunday to hear about what will happen to them after they die. Everyone wishes they were someone or somewhere else. The only difference is, all of the above things are "normal", while most of the things people like us are interested in are "weird". Normals are hypocrites who want to deny the truth about themselves while accusing people who they perceive as different. It's nothing new at all.

>hypocrites who want to deny the truth about themselves while accusing people who they perceive as different

isnt that pretty much what everyone here does?

No, I think most of us accept the truth about ourselves. At least I do.

No, I rant about how every else is shit in public. In private, I cry about what a piece of shit I am.

I think it's more apathy than acceptance...

Seems that way to me.
