The first episode was really good, I have very high expectations for this now.

I concur. It's fresh to see this kind of setting with middle aged people struggling instead of whiny ass faggot MC in high school.
>> No. 9140 [Edit]
I haven't seen it yet, but have high hopes for this show. I hope it's sort of like Planetes; science fiction with a lot of real science along with some hilarious characters.
>> No. 9141 [Edit]
I think the show has great potential, and I'll probably watch the whole thing simply because it's a lot different than other shows I've been watching recently.
>> No. 9154 [Edit]
Finished the first episode a while ago. This show looks like it's going to be great.
>> No. 9155 [Edit]
I'd really like to know if there are any legit news on how long this show'll run for. It was briefly listed for 48 episodes by YTV but that's been taken down since then (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-03-04/space-brothers-anime-briefly-listed-as-48+episodes). Considering the popularity of the manga as well as the upcoming live action film this year, I'd expect at least 26 episodes out of the show though.
>> No. 9156 [Edit]
I liked the first episode.

It's anywhere between 48-50. The production company has booked the entire time slot for the season, so unless it get cancelled for some reason it'll be around that long.

Two episodes in and I already love this series. Mutta is one of the funniest, most likable male protags in recent memory.

I wonder how things will go from now on but for now I already like the series.

Seemed kind of odd that those two elderly (American) people were so fluent in Japanese.
I know it's nothing new for western characters to be fluent in Japanese in anime, becuase it's just easier that way. but this episode repeatedly touched on the whole language barrier thing, which would actually be a real issue when joining nasa. What made it stand out even more was them popping up right after a scene involving Mutta being 'tested' with a note written in English.

I guess what they're saying here is, it doesn't mater if you can speak the language, as long as you can read and wright it?
But then what was up with that guy during the interview who asking in English if the candidates learned anything about themselves?

But who knows, maybe Hibito taught the elderly couple Japanese.

LIES!!
The space photos at the end of every ep thus far aren't nearly as awesome as they claim.

I just assumed they were implying they were speaking English, since they rarely speak English in anime anyway. Since they are applying for JAXA/NASA I would imagine they have to be fluent in English.

I thought this would be obvious to everyone.
They did the same thing in Ikoku Meiro no Croisee, there's no point to use the native language of the zone for that long, it would just be horrible torture for everyone's ears.
Just like american movies set in other countries, you hardly ever hear them speaking anything other than english, unless it's just a small scene.
>> No. 9699 [Edit]
>>9686
>Just like american movies set in other countries,
Usually they start in the native language and make a transition to English, and/or will have a simple reason for it, such as the person knowing English, but even then they still have accents to some degree.

Feather more, ikoku meiro was hella damn confusing for the first few episodes, because of the character claiming not to know french, while everyone was speaking Japanese. and she did speak a little Japanese at first, but turns out that was french... wtf?

You know what I think, I think they just have a really hard time finding anyone to do voice work in languages other than Japanese, and in most cases, they demand way too much money, or flat out suck.

Mutta is going to headbutt the guy with the fire extinguisher, right?
>> No. 9717 [Edit]
>>9699

and then what, have every character speaking french with jap. subtitles for the entire season?

it wouldn't end well.
>> No. 9725 [Edit]
>>9717
Would have been better than nothing, which is what they went with, nothing. There should have been at least some way to know when people were speaking in one language or the other.
But I don't think it matted as much in ikoku meiro as it does in uchuu kyoudai, it's a recurring issue in uchuu kyoudai, but in ikoku meiro it's safe to assume somewhere after ep 2 or 3 that it's nothing but french from then on.
>> No. 9731 [Edit]
I imagine the reason they avoid using foreign language is that it's cheaper. They would require a voice actor who actually has an American voice/accent or at least a Japanese one who could speak Engrish. Then they would have to have someone translate and typeset it all for TV, since they would most likely subtitle it for those parts. Leaving it in Japanese is just much more ameliorative to viewers and staff.

Did it bug anyone else that ep20 ended on that rock paper scissors cliffhanger, but they didn't say who won it in the next ep?
glad the box thing is over though. I knew the moment they went in, they weren't gonna come out for at least 13 ep, but I was still amazed they actually did drag it out that much.

>Did it bug anyone else that ep20 ended on that rock paper scissors cliffhanger, but they didn't say who won it in the next ep?
Yes

Seems they want to use "elimination" method to tell us who two passed. In latest episode we found out monkey boy didn't pass.
>> No. 11098 [Edit]
>>11079
that seems to be a fair assessment.
If I had to guess, I'd say serika was one of the winners. She's probably gonna be one of the 3 to make it to the end, but I find it hard to believe they'd pick her over the other candidates after proving she's unfit to manage supplies, she'd probably have to do something at Huston to win back some approval.

I would also guess that Nanba doesn't win, but they hand pick him to go anyway, becuase of how well he managed the team solved problems. just as with Kenji.
Somehow I get the feeling Reiji would go regardless of winning or not, he just seems to perfect to pass up.
I doubt the old timer will move on, they've already flushed out his back story.

I know they need to stay fit and all that, but still, you'd think she'd be a bit bigger with that eating disorder of hers. I guess she must be putting in twice as much work to keep that extra wight off.

Has been steadily getting better since the tests finished.

The new OP is pretty great too. All the OPs in this show are awesome actually.
They also did some very good work with the space scenes showing the earth in the last episode.

Man, you weren't kidding. shit has gotten intense in recent episodes. I was a few ep behind with little drive to catch up. but after fucking dukes of hazzard on the moon I marathoned my way back up to the latest episode. I really didn't expect the turn the show took.

I can't believe this is going to be more than 52 ep long. Is anyone here still following this? I've been keeping up with it but now I feel like dropping it, I don't know if I want to watch another 50ep, especially now that afro has already been selected as an astronaut and most of whats to come looks like training. I'm surprised by how accurate this thing was, yet was way out of scale. (I know Japanese are tiny people but they aren't that small come on.)

It might be nitpicking a bit coming from a lego nerd, but this anime is set around 2030 or so right? so what's a 45 year old lego figure doing there?
