The first ep wasn't horrible I guess, I'll give it that. I want to say it seemed interesting but really that first ep doesn't really have much to it to form an opinion around. I feel like things moved a bit too slow, Like they establish the situation then do nothing but diking around for the rest of the ep. It's really hard to comment on since not much really happens. I assume ep2 will address this by answering the question: 'okay, now what?'.
Definitely gonna have to reserve any sort of judgment for a few more ep.

So even after ep2 I'm still not sure where they're going with this. Seems like they're exploring the idea of npcs becoming sentient, and it seems like this is turning out to be something of a harem anime surprisingly enough. It felt a bit like one during ep one, but I thought there weren't enough characters who wanted to get boned by the mc to call it one and seemed like it was strictly that horny bitch, but that changed in ep2.
The show is interesting enough to make me wanna keep watching, but that may simply be because they're not really giving us much at this point. Both ep 1&2 could probably be sumed up with "guy is stuck in a videogame and the npcs all think he's their supreme demon king." Now we just gotta wait for something to actually happen...
They may or may not be in a new world, and may or may not decide to try to conker it. At least the end of ep2 showed that something should start to finally happen in the next ep.
I'm surprised more people aren't jumping on this show, if not for the trap/reverse trap twins at least.

If I didn't know any better I'd think this show was trying to give Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou, a run for it's money. While simultaneously trying to cash in on sword art's popularity.
>> No. 23609 [Edit]
Seems like the plot has finally gotten started in ep3. Thought this might have been a bizarre harem anime at first but that doesn't seem to be the case after all, if it is it's probably just gonna be a background thing. I think the concept is kind of interesting so far. Like with sword art it's about someone who gets stuck in a game, but here it's more like the game becomes reality and the mc has to learn how to blend in with the world. That and the story being told from the perspective of a super powerful demon lord, and not some generic hero trying to save the day.

I think it's kinda funny that they couldn't just have an anime with a main character who's an evil overload and is apathetic about human life without first making him a generic teenage boy who gets turned into a completely different character, but of course without that fish out of water element this anime would be a bit boring.

Even though I went into it expecting it to be a crappy sword art wannabe I'm starting to really kind of enjoy this anime, and don't even usually watch these types of shows. Sure it feels like it's dragging it's a feet a bit and taking twice as long to establish the story as they should, but it's still interesting and enjoyable enough to watch. Dare I say I'm intrigued to see how this whole thing turns out and what it is exactly that's causing the events in the anime. If this all turns out to be a dream I'm gonna be pretty pissed off.

Changing his name felt a bit silly to me. I dunno but if he wanted to spread a game related term/name to see if anyone else was stuck in that world with him he could have just as easily claimed he was from an organization of that name/term. Changing his name seems like it'd run the risk of making his minions suspicions of his actions.

Watched the first 6 eps yesterday.

>>23479
>>23529

Gotta agree with these. Frankly - after 6 eps - I still don't really know what this show wants to do. World domination afterall? If you actually want to go down that route you have to do a hell of a job at world building. You have to establish the setting well and you have to make sure that the viewers feel that the MC might have the potential but right now he's a nobody with a bunch of trustworthy friends/subordinates, starting from the bottom. Conquering the world must seem borderline impossible but then, step by step it gets closer...

But when you start out with an MC who's this ridiculously overpowered it's weird. Right now it seems lke he could just teleport to each country's capital and tell the king 'look, uuuh, you have two choices: either you'll obey me or I'll wipe this puny kingdom of the face of this planet'. I'm sure some characters who are at least equally powerful will show up later but... how much later is later? We're midway through the first cour and nothing indicates it so far.

His way of gathering information is so roundabout, inefficient and plain stupid I don't know where to even begin. He could just abduct a couple of people and interrogate them. That'd be like 100 times faster.

One somewhat positive thing is that for once the MC is neither a white knight nor an agsty teenager. He can kill people just fine and think nothing of it. Refreshing.

So far I don't know what to think of it. Whatever it wants to do it does a poor job at it because 6 eps in it didn't really manage to get anywhere.

>>23743

He's not, he's in his mid to late 20s most likely.

>Right now it seems lke he could just teleport to each country's capital and tell the king 'look, uuuh, you have two choices: either you'll obey me or I'll wipe this puny kingdom of the face of this planet'.
For the most part you're right. I'd like to at least give them a tiny benefit of a doubt that maybe he's just being cautious. After all he clearly sucks at information gathering, so as far as he knows maybe the higher ups are as power as him if not more so. Heck, could be he got transported to the world of a different game, and just because you're good at one game doesn't necessarily mean you will be in another
...well he's pretty good at this one, but still!

If it were me I'd use some of those underlings he has and send them out information gathering. Doing it himself seems kinda dumb and risky (but necessary for the plot I guess?) You could have a handful join the guild and gather money/information, heck why not have your guys act as spys in all three factions?

One thing I couldn't help but wonder about was with their money situation. For one, couldn't he sell off a few of his items? Even the low level ones would probably net them more than enough to get them by. I can't imagine they need much, is he worried about paying the internet bill or something? some loose change for random encounters like at the tavern should be enough.
For that matter, couldn't he melt down some of his gold coins? I'd like to think a guy with a huge magical castle who can create miniature black holes at will has the ability to melt down and maybe reforge some metals. I'm sure even unrefined lumps of gold or silver or whatever would still be sellable in that kind of world without too many questions being asked.

>One somewhat positive thing is that for once the MC is neither a white knight nor an agsty teenager. He can kill people just fine and think nothing of it. Refreshing.

I'm impressed. I didn't believe it when he mentioned not having any emotions or sympathy. I figured it was bs just to make him sound cool since he went out of his way to protect those village girls a few ep back, but he really didn't hesitate at all to kill those guys.

It's kind of funny how an ep which was almost nothing but combat could be one of the most boring to me.
See, it's a bit hard to get invested in the action when you really can't tell what's going on. They kept going on about HP and mana but as a viewer you've got no way of knowing how much hp they really have. Even visualy they didn't seem to be effected much. When they say a character has taken a big hit to their HP or that they're recovering HP it could still be at 60,000,000,000 HP for all I know. Same for when someone lands an attack, I have no clue if it's a weak or strong one or if it matters either way. They at least half heartily tried to visually represent mana but it only came in two flavors; tons of mana at the start and not much but the same every time after they checked in on it. Also I really don't think it's a great idea to stop the action after every blow to have little conversations, even if that is a common thing in anime.

So... After 13 eps, I still don't know what the show was supposed to be about.
How would you even describe it to a random person? 'A pseudo MMO fantasy harem-esque show with an undead anti-hero'?
Overall it had very little to offer. The setting is boring, the characters are pretty damn boring (including the MC, personality-wise), there's no real premise or plot. The sole saving grace is that the MC doesn't give a fuck about killing random people (>>24005).

It could've been a normal, boring world conquest show. It could've been a normal, boring MMO show. It could've been something kinda new - a show about hilariously overpowered anti-hero MC who toys around with his enemies before killing them with a single gesture. For a while it seemed that's what it'll be but they never fully utilized it - wish he had taken his sweet time with >>23918. I enjoyed that aspect of the show - it's like playing a jRPG where you're ridiculously overleveled and just crush all the bosses like they're small fry.

But in the end they went with none of this and nothing else in its place. The ending had a bit of a world conquest hook but they wasted 13 eps doing nothing.
I'm very surprised the novels were popular enough to get adapted and I'm even more suprised the show sells fairly well (better than Log Horizon which is kinda getting somewhere, if at snail's pace). Not particularly upset about it, just kinda perplexed.

I doubt I'll bother with S2, if it'll ever get made (it very well could with these sales).

I'd say you hit the nail on the head there. While I find this one of the more enjoyable series of the season the fact is it's very much lacking in substance. The only point where things got interesting was in the middle with that psycho cunt arc. It had a very clear set up and pay off and was easy easy enough to follow/understand. For the most part this anime seems to relay a lot on the power fantasy element (being over leveled) and the (refreshing) antihero MC. I wouldn't even say the mystery behind the plot is all that interesting as they don't give nearly enough to go off of. 13 ep in and it doesn't really feel like things have gone anywhere or that we've really learned anything about the world we didn't in near the beginning. In retrospect we also don't really have too many interesting characters. Outside of bone head none of the characters really have much depth to them are mostly mindless yes men. Although I suppose vamp bitch and horn cunt did have some moderately amusing chemistry together.
I guess most of all I'm just getting really tired of anime with unfuffiling and/or no true ending. Not that I really expected one here, but that was far from the best note to leave off on.
Who knows if this will ever get a second season, and I'm too lazy to read the book and see if he's just dreaming all this with his vr set on or if the devs overwrote their old game with a new one which created this huge bug.

>The only point where things got interesting was in the middle with that psycho cunt arc. It had a very clear set up and pay off and was easy easy enough to follow/understand.

And yet even that was ultimately devoid of any real meta plot itself (aside of them being part of some larger organization but it honestly hardly mattered). It was just a weak villain running around and not getting anything done. They actually managed to create that army of undead and thus complete their plan. It did them no good anyway and Bonehead took it out with no effort.
It took forever, was superficial, superflous and overtalked. The actual scene that was supposed to be enjoyable - >>23918 - was short and unfulfilling.
Absolutely nothing happened for the first two eps. Bonehead told his minions to go check out the surrounding area and they found nothing worthy of reporting. Why even bother then?

Frankly this is graphomania at its finest. The author wanted to write something but it doesn't look like he had any idea what to write. So he just wrote whatever. And nobody bothered to streamline any of it for the anime adaptation.

The surprise twist is that a lot of people actually liked it. I'd be interesting to talk with one of them and hear them explain what made the show interesting for them. Not trying to be judgmental here - I like some crap myself - I just legitimately have no idea what was there to like about this (for all it's worth there wasn't that much to dislike either). Self insert power fantasy? If so then even that was very poorly made.

It wasn't shit, it was just extremely empty. Looking back on it I have no idea where those 13 eps went.

>And nobody bothered to streamline any of it for the anime adaptation.
One of the most frequent complaints I've seen in the Overlord episode discussions on Reddit is that a lot of it was in fact streamlined and a lot of content was skipped. For the most part, this was for the worst because the anime's portrayal of the book's events will seem inconsistent/rushed.

Just for example, you complained about Ainz's followers being mere yes-men but in the LNs, it's shown that while they all deeply desire Ainz's fulfilment, how they go about accomplishing this varies amongst them and it details internal monologues of characters to highlight the depth of their devotion to Ainz. They argue and bicker amongst each other with such fervor, all because of this desire. More is explained regarding Zach (the guy who gets sucked into the blondie's boobs), Clementine (psycho cunt) with regards to their backstories however, this is not for sympathetic purposes but rather, to further flesh the world out.

>It wasn't shit. It was just extremely empty
Yes. This is precisely why I love it. Not for what it is but for what it could be. This whole season has been about setting the world up. I have high hopes for its season two.

Holy shit, I don't even.

>This whole season has been about setting the world up.

And yet they didn't manage to set up anything at all. You can do a much better job at world building in 13 minutes than this show has done in 13 eps.
>> No. 24206 [Edit]
I've heard the source material has endless amounts of poorly condensed text but that really doesn't seem like an excuse for the lack of content here. like >>24188 said 13 eps is plenty to establish the world, characters, and plot. The problem here is the show does way too much flapping about and time wasting. The first three ep for example amounted to little more than a character roll call, which I might add didn't even cover half of the main characters.
Even in the end we only got to see half of the characters shown here >>23657 .
