it's a manga adaptation, after all. You'll only be disappointed by what gets cut and then pissed off at that half assed anime original stuff that gets put in its place. Similar fair to any other fantasy/action manga adaptation.

I would strongly recommend watching StrikerS though, as ViVid continues from that storyline.

Nanoha's personality seems to have changed drastically since strikers. I remember her being much more firm and authoritarian.

Once you get to StrikerS, it gets somewhat lewd, and then ViVid is entirely moe/loli fanservice, bath scenes, bathing scenes back to back with breast bouncing martial arts.

I gotta say, If these two are supposed to be the new Nanoha and Fate... it really ain't working.
You can't just wave a magic wand around and say "you've friends now!". Where's the conflict and resolution? where are those emotional trials?
Where's the god damn befriending? Vivio should do her mother proud and toast that girl with some lazerbeams before truly becoming her friend.

They set things up as if it was going in that direction, but then Einhald gets in one single fight with some random character then suddenly her and vivio get forced together with some playdate style bs and now they're bff soul mates? common.

Seems they brought back loli Rider.

There's this tournament arc,

Then there's the school festival arc,

then the begining of a training arc and the anime will be caught up with the manga.

There's a bit of shenanigans in between the arcs though. Mostly fantasy wish-fulfillment for those who wanted to see 1v1's from the A's/STRYKER cast that were both good guys so otherwise would not be fighting each other, but still a good bit of fanservice.

Well that sucked. This was like shounen anime but worse, at least most shounen anime have plots. This is literately nothing but girls taking turns smacking each other around in an arena over and over. There's not even any consequences to the fights or reason to get invested, everyone's protected from serious injuries and get healed up after the fight and that kinda makes it all completely pointless. This is almost like watching out of context clips of action scenes from random movies.

Also, where does that massive amount of hair go when she puts her hood on?

The first chunk of the tournament is really the introduction arc. The first actual story arc begins afterwards. Note that the anime is about 2/3 the way through the introductory part.

Here's what you have to look forward to:
>another 6 episodes in total for introduction
>6 episodes to start the beginning of the first arc
>hiatus indefinitely with a yearly OVA or something due to slow monthly manga release schedule

Though, there are some parts that were skipped which will most likely get touched on later, as the anime group did reorder a fair portion of the first couple of volumes.

I suppose it's nice to know this will eventually have some semblance of a plot eventually. I just don't think they should take 12 ep just to introduce the characters and little more. Seems like kinda crappy story telling to parade characters one after another while giving very little backstory and a demonstration of their abilities. It feels like playing a game where they force you to review some long tedious tutorial and all the character bios before you can play. Sometimes it's better to learn how to play the game as you play it.
Strikers had the same problem, first half of that anime was pure fluff/filler. I believe you should introduce characters while establishing the plot or when those characters become relevant to the plot, and not putting everything on pause to just to introduce the cast and their abilities before you can move on. I might even go as far as to say I think there's way too many characters which is my guess as to why the creators felt the need to introduce everyone this way.
The first two seasons on the other hand had very compact casts of characters and did story telling much better with bringing out characters in a much more natural way and only going into as much detail about them as was needed at any given time.
