In actuality, it's pretty much just a harem set around people doing things somewhat related to trains, and the MC is a train enthusiast.

I didn't know what to expect from the show, and after watching the first episode, I thought it'd be horrendous. But the last few eps have been okay, if you don't mind those harem elements and blatant fan service.

I really, really, dislike the redhead.

Are they high school students too?

Yes, but he and the other central characters are working as trainees for some sort of train defense force. It's a strange premise that I didn't pay a lot of attention to.
