Yea, it's been talked about lots in the past (during transmission and after) and it's also a delicate theme for some so we don't bring it up much anymore (threads usually ended bad and got deleted). And the 3 episode rule obviously doesn't make justice to a lot of shows (Madoka, Eva, Clannad, Utena, Monogatari,...).
