The hell? Either I just did not pay any attention whatsoever or that's simply not how it looked on my end. Downloaded [FFF] release, too, looked decent enough, didn't really see any artifacts.

An okay first ep I guess, not much has happened so far. The designs look awfully (mid) 00s, though. Not like it's necessarily a bad thing, it's just that they feel so... old.

That's a screenshot of a very high motion scene. MPEG2 (the codec used in the transport stream) is very bad at maintaining quality in high motion scenes without crazy bitrate. Thus, the broadcast looks like shit. There's little an encoder can do fix frames like that without nuking them with a powerful de-noise filter, which would both slow down the encoding process and kill off background detail.

You didn't notice the artefacts because they aren't really noticeable in motion — at least not in such fast scenes.

This was all around pretty nice, better than I expected. I'm sooo gonna have to get the OSTs to this.
I didn't notice any of that artifact stuff, and I'm surprised anyone else did.

This show made me realize that it really doesn't matter how much 3dcg in anime improves, it will always look odd in motion becuase of the kind of choppy animation we're so use to seeing. It looks pretty good in this anime, and they transition between 2d and 3d so seamlessly.

I thought it looked pretty bad and the gut feeling that they seemed to be doing their best to hide it didn't help beause they failed miserably. But it's only a matter of time before more and more series will make this transition, how sad.

I'm loving this show - even despite the 3DPDCG. It's not as bad as other shows so I can stand it.

and dear lord was there a shitload of artefacts for that song, not just that scene, but nearly every part where the CG was used, the background and moving parts of the characters went to shit. It really made the 2-d parts stand out.

If you'd have asked me, besides being the focus of the anime I'd say it was a simple matter of numbers. Performances are just going to be more impressive when you have so many more members all in sync. Besides, larger group means it's easier for fans to find a member that that would appeal to them so there's that.
