I've never read the manga before, but I'm really liking this series so far.

It's only been like 4 episodes, yet I find myself actually caring what happens to the characters. I think this show, Chuunibyou, and Jojo might be my favorites so far this season.

I could make an entire post describing how I'm not even watching or following this show or how I am ignorant to mostly everything about this show with the exception with the nipple pierced genie and Morgiana, but the entire message would be that I like Morgiana despite all of this. Maybe it's the red hair or something, I dunno.

The villains in this series are some real scumbags. What makes it even worse is how realistic their world's problems are.

Morgiana was great in this week's episode. She isn't just cute but also strong like a bull.

I wish shounens didn't do such stupid things for drama. I thought their djin weapons deactivated when they didn't have enough magic left? Or was I just not paying attention?

This isn't mutually exclusive to shounen. It can happen in any demographic as long as the mangaka wishes for it to happen and does it in a way that isn't too inappropriate for the specified demographic.

But still, I'm not sure what has happened, but it looks terrible. I hope Morgiana didn't get hurt too badly.

Djinn Equips do require some spare magoi to maintain, yes. Morgiana wasn't using one, she was using a household vessel as explained in one of the earlier episodes. And while Djinn Equips require some magoi to maintain and will deactivate before you hit rock bottom, other magoi-draining abilities and tools (such as household vessels, magic, magoi transfer (Aladdin feeding Ugo with his magoi and ending up hospitalized in an earlier arc), the magoi-powered chi that Hakyryuu used earlier and other things) can be used until your magoi pool gets low enough to leave you for dead.

Season two.

Not the greatest start, instead of a bit of a forward reintroducing everybody, it started with a flashforward of what happens after this up-coming arc (or perhaps another 3-4 eps after the next one), showing a bunch of characters that have yet to be introduced.

At the very least, the production staff went out of their way to whore out their anime-only character before diagnosing her with terminal cancer.

I'm still not that far but I think that's my problem with this anime. You're either a good guy or a bad guy it seems. Pure magoi or dark magoi. It makes it feel a bit flat to me.

it gets better in that regard with the current arc. Things get somewhat gray. Nothing that would make it too complex for the shounen audience, mind you, but it's at least something.

and ep 18 is when the S2 ep 1 hype train will start to fall into place. I just hope 1/3 of the episode isn't reused footage from that episode.
