Okay, let me start with stating the obvious: the flash series sucked. I saw the entire 'S1' because it was mercifully short. I also downloaded the first epsiode of the second series without realizing they are still using flash (I didn't check the filesize) but I deleted it at the speed of light after opening the file.

So, now that it's obvious I didn't like them I can recommend this one with clear conscience. And just for the record: no, they aren't using flash anymore (can't say the production values are high but it's definitely watachable) and yes, the eps are 24 minutes long.

It'll surely drive Cthulhu purists nuts and in all honesty it doesn't even have much to do with the mythos (although the 'sanity points' reference was a nice touch) but the first episode was surprisingly decent. Yeah, it was pretty stupid but at the same time it was pretty entertaining and somewhat funny at times. As such, I definitely plan to follow it (even though the protag is rather unlikeable).

One thing that's obvious to anyone who has seen the flash series is that the cast is pretty great. The three central characters are still voiced by Kitamura Eri, Asumi Kana and Matsuki Miyu but they added even more seiyuu goodness: Kugimiya Rie (whose character didn't make a proper appearance yet) and Ootsubo Yuka (the name probably doesn't tell you anything but it's the girl who voiced TOSHINO KYOUKO in Yuru Yuri, I recognized her right away because she has a rather unusual voice that makes her sounds like she's lisping). Also Kouda Mariko and Hatano Wataru if you like them (personally I really dislike Hatano but whatever).



Oh, and just for the people who haven't heard about the whole thing before: no, you don't need to watch the flash series to undertstand what's going on. On the contrary, the flash series doesn't make much sense if you are not familiar with the novels. Point is you don't have to watch them and you really shouldn't because they sucked. The series is very newbie friendly in comparisson and has a brief introduction in the first ep (not like the plot matters either way).

I've been seeing this around lately so I got curious and checked this out, and I'm glad I did. It's funny and I want to put my penis in Nyaruko. How many episodes is it?

It's weird how this show can keep me glued for so long. Normally I get antsy just sitting there so I take short breaks to check the internet a little bit before coming back, but with this show I look at the time and it's already halfway over.

This is one of his best stories to be honest. The whole Cthulhu mythos thing is pretty damn silly and I never understood why it got popular.

I haven't read all of them but I think saying that "The Music of Erich Zann" is his best short story is pretty safe.

Trust me dude, I hate it just as much anyone else, if not more so, when female violence on men is a large or primary source of humor in series.
It's why I couldn't stand 'Love hina', and it was my main problem with 'Working!!'.

I don't much care if the MC here acts like a homo, but theres no need for violance, and yeah, even if he is a douche, I wouldn't think it cool if the roles were reverses. (though, he wouldn't really be much of a douche anymore if he didn't stab Nyaruko all the time.)

I don't mind more silly things, like him nailing her blanket to the table with forks. I wish there would be more things like that, instead of stabbings and hot tea burnings

I'd love to say it's just becuase he's a dick, but it could be the series's way of counterbalancing Nyaruko's overzealous affection for him for comedic effect.
This would have been a quit different show if he accepted her feelings, but I think it would have been really interesting to see them go about things as a lovey dovey couple while still keeping the show a comedy.

It worked for Isaac and Miria in Baccano.

Its only bit of redemption was that it constantly threw in references to anything that it wanted to, which wasn't enough to save this disappointment of an anime.
