Watch it first and tell me it's not as good as or better than Yuru Yuri with a straight face

I was amazed and surprised by the creative and fluid quality of the animation and the funny dialogs, situations and reactions. Really liked this.

Also, I was really looking forward for the little girls.

I thought this was surprisingly good.
I couldn't help but be reminded of NieA Under 7
Naoko even looks a lot like niea, Misuzu on the other hand looks an awful lot like a certain member from the working cast...

Probably just me, but Naoko's voice didn't seem to really match the image of the character I think.. not that it was by any means bad, I thought it was rather nice, just sounded like it belonged to someone, I dunno, older.
Kind of like the deal with Kuroko's voice in railgun, but not as extreme.
Didn't take long for me to warm up to it all the same.

The whole thing was very, bizarre, but in a good way, like, wacky fun randomness while not going to overboard with it and keeping it in context, mostly.
very entertaining.
Hope to see more of it.

He's there for only one scene during a sort of musical number thing, and has no lines.
>> No. 8908 [Edit]
Huh, it's actually decent? I remember watching the first OVA and it was so horrible I wanted to gauge my eyeballs out even though I'm a huge yuri fan (and I quite enjoy Kuroko's sexy voice).

Seriously, it was among Top 5 worst anime I have ever fucking seen.

I'll check it out later.

Rather than having something I didn't like I hated fucking everything. It was like ~5-6 minutes long so that's pretty impressive.

Well, I just saw it.
and I don't think you'd like the longer version much if you didn't like the 6 min one, it uses the same style of humor, art style, voice acting, everything.

I personalty didn't think it was that bad, but part of it might have to do with the context, that shorter version ova really doesn't explain anything, they just sort of assume you know all the characters and in jokes and what not already.
...although the 2012 ova doesn't exactly do a whole lot more in that area.

Also, after checking up on it, it seems Naoko actualy is voiced by the same VA that did Kuroko after all.

The animation, the lolis, the yuri service, the deadpan humor; I would very much like to see a full anime of this.

Incidentally, does Naoko-san remind anyone else heavily of Haruko from FLCL?

It's like you read my mind.

Welp, I still think it's very poor.

The dealbreaker is the complete lack of music. Watch some comedy show from the 90s, they suffer from the same problem and I thought we got over it 10 years ago. It was also the first time in a good while I've heard cicadas in anime (which was a nostalgia bomb for me, feels like I haven't heard cicadas in any anime for 3 years at least).

I simply can't imagine a good comedy anime without BGM. I'm completely serious. At least use something minimalistic like Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou.

On top of that Misuzu's deadpan manner completely ruins the humor. Normally I love me some little miss deadpan but not as the tsukommi character. The whole manazi routine consists of setting up one important (punch)line and if you ruin it's over, you just killed the joke. The thing is it only works if you scream it out with all your might in over the top manner.

Katte ni Kaizou comes to mind. I was looking forward to hearing some Kitamura Eri but she was an utter failure as a tsukommi character. The show would improve a lot if they went back to Hiroshi Kamiya/Inoue Marina.

Another example of bad tsukkomi from this season is whoever voices Tadakuni in Danshi Koukousei no Nihijou. He simply fails at it. Either you can do it or you can't. Misuzu's seiyuu (which is pretty popular problably, I know I've heard that voice somewhere but I can't recall where and checking in now would feel like cheating) can't.

>Probably just me, but Naoko's voice didn't seem to really match the image of the character I think.

Also agreed. The voice acting was rather subpar period (still better than the first OVA) and Nonaka Ai was the sole redeeming point (wish she'd just voice some real anime instead of doing random OVAs).

I could go on but I already pointed out the most imporant things. A minor annoyance was ufotable blowing their budget on short scenes while they couldn't use more than 3 frames for scenes in which characters just talked with each other.

Basically, I really like the idea (yurifying the Earth). I like the humor (since I enjoy blue humor period; just give us SYD S2 already ;_;). I love me some ufotable (so underrated, poor ufotable). I love lolis. I just don't like this anime.

Next time ufotable should just do a 30 minute OVA about lolis playing in the water.

This was pretty funny.
I like Naoko.

She's like something between Haruko and Washu.

or am I just imagining the similarities?

Yeah.
It's pretty similar.

I find this a bit awkward with Satomi Arai using that voice for an alien that looks like 17-23 years old human by the art direction standard, I notice she voices a lot of crazy bat shit insane lesbians but still.

>>8944
I cracked up quite hard at that part.

I love it! Now where's the ED?
>> No. 10355 [Edit]
Oh, I've been wanting to voice my opinion on this for a while, but there wasn't any thread about it on /bun/.
Anyway, I really, really liked the repressed and minimalistic atmosphere it had, for example the conservative use of music and the deadpan manner everybody acted in and delivered their jokes in. It twisted the tired manzai formula in a fresh direction. It sort of made me think of The Office for a moment (though the styles of humor are obviously different), but then it'd just suddenly throw all of that out the window and go completely insane. It just did what a good comedy should do, and almost no anime comedies does. It knew when to hold back and when to go crazy; it knew how to be unpredictable, and it had a nice level of detail too.
It was just a really nice piece of artisanry, which I feel is getting rarer and rarer, not only in anime, but in all media.

>>10334
The OP is awesome, the ED is beautiful. I really love how some anime aren't afraid to be beautiful, contra American animated comedies like Family Guy.
>> No. 10366 [Edit]
This needs a full series already.
