This series reminds a lot of Nanoha StrikerS, except the world is a lot more fleshed out.

Apparently the second season is already confirmed.

I just started watching this. Ended up enjoying the first episode so much I watched it over and over like, 3 times before I realized, "Wait, there are many more episodes to this."

So yeah, I like Horizon. The world is really interesting; I enjoy post-apocalyptic stories.

You pretty much hit it on the head.
I don't know much of the LN, but based on the anime MUSASHI is supposed to collect the rest of the Deadly Sin Armaments (which contain the lost emotions of Horizon). When all of the Armaments are gathered, this can supposedly save the world from the inevitable "apocalypse."

The questions that I have are why history needs to be repeated and the relevance of being "spirited away." Is it related to the end of the world or something separate entirely?

Either way, they have a long and bumpy road ahead of them. The DSA's in this series are akin to nuclear weapons irl. It's not like everyone is just going to let one country/faction hold all of the world's weapons of mass destruction/alteration. At least not without a fight.

Looks like MUSASHI will have a war with the K.P.A. Italia next season though.

I think they were trying not to divert the history... From what I gather, forgive me if I'm wrong, one day two worlds collided and cause a terrible destruction so they went back to the past and try to stop it or something. To ensure that things would be the same (not causing the disaster earlier) they were following the testament, a record of what had happened in the original timeline, to the letter. That's why we get historical characters like Galileo, that old man Honda. Other than that I don't really have an explanation...

Ah it makes a little more sense now.

Just finished the final episode (about a month late, I know). I was actually really damn sad to realize that I wasn't going to see these characters for a while. They became like friends to me, in a way. It's amazing how such an absurd series can be so damn enjoyable.

Then I saw the "second season confirmed" frame at the end of the episode and realized that's not so far away~ Fuck yeah, Horizon.

S2 starts in a couple days, so might as well bump this.

Unfortunately, you're a bit off.

Way back when, humanity ascended to a higher plain of existence. They became "gods", so to speak. Well, they fucked up and had to return to earth, which was mostly uninhabitable for some reason. In order to fit everyone who came back, they made a parallel dimension Japan for all the non-Japanese people to live in. Someone managed to screw THAT up too, and the parallel Japan collapsed onto the original. Everyone in the parallel dimension blamed the original Japan for wrecking their home, so that's why the Far East faction gets shafted in almost every way.

I'll use another post to explain the Testament and history recreation.

Now, back when they made that parallel dimension, they also made the Testament, in order to repeat the steps that got them to ascend in the first place. Their theory is to repeat the effect by repeating the cause. Scientifically sound idea, right?

Well, it doesn't quite work as well as they think. The history the Testament provides is often vague, inaccurate, and only given in chunks of a century or 2 at a time. All this fear of an "apocalypse" is due to the Testament not updating when it's supposed to. They're running out of things to recreate, and the magic book is not coughing up the next script.

There's also self-interest mucking things up, like people who take on historic namesakes not wanting to die when they're supposed to. This is actually a major plot point of S2.

So no, they're not in the past, they're tens of thousands of years in the future, and they're always in that future. They're history reenactors, like the guys who go out on the weekend in Civil War uniforms, except there's actually a point to it this time.
