2803 No. 2803 [Edit]
/an/ do you know any good josei shows other than Honey&Clover & Nodame Cantabile? the various lists and search/ranking sites i usually look at are failing me. I wouldn't bother you like this, but its for an important project and I'm on a deadline. A sophisticated shojo is fine too, also no yaoi plx, kthxbai

By good do you mean stuff guys like too? Off the top of my head:

Kuragehime
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Natsume's book of friends (Shoujo)

I'd say these demographic markers are near useless though if you're trying to categorize content.

To further expand on this, joesei, shounen, seinen, and shoujo, are typically just markers for the manga's audience. There is a huge amount of overlap in the content between these demographics. You can't really say something like this is a josei because of "x" most of the time.

i like NANA but im hesitant to recommend that on tohno-chan

That's because that's not how target demographics are supposed to work. I think that most people have no idea how to properly assign anime within target demographics.

The rule to it is so simple it hurts. No matter the content a series has always the same target demographics as the magazine it's published in. There's nothing more to it.

However, it is very misleading. For example, Yotsubato! is a shounen series, as it's serialized in a shounen magazine (Dengeki Daioh). NANA is (?) published in Cookie so it's shoujo, even though it makes no sense.

So yeah, I think OP isn't really looking for josei series. But he gave us good examples to work with.

I'd recommend NANA, Paradise Kiss and Lovely Complex. That's about it. Usagi Drop would work but it's getting adapted later this year. Maybe the Shinkai movies (5cm/s, Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days).

Why? Making a notorious slut the main heroine was arguably the best idea ever. My favorite drama series of all time.

Also Skip Beat, Ristorante Paradiso, Peach Girl, Higashi no Eden. There really isn't that much to choose from.

How can anyone on tohno like NANA, it's everything bad about normals turned into an anime.
If I wanted to see this I'd watch 3d tv shows.

Those two are probably the only good josei I've seen. The rest have been mediocre. Some relevant shoujo might be Lovely Complex, Kimi ni Todoke (before the second season became stereotypical shoujo), and Bokura ga Ita (before the second half of the show became stereotypical shoujo).

For the manga. Anime adaptations will sometimes have different demographics, like shounen manga being adapted into a late-night otaku anime.

Thanks, that made me burst out laugh.

For shoujo, I like Pet Shop of Horrors, but that has nothing to do with romance or anything of the sort just to let you know in advance.
