Kougami gets the scan glow while eyeing the heroine before he's gotten his hands on a Dominator, so he must have some kind of scanning technology on him.

Let's see what the MC learnt today:

All police training is useless. The world is too cruel for it and police officers are too soft for it. So we use criminals instead (the "hot" guy, the bitch, the veteran and the comic relief). Oh, and you.

You have been trained on this gun, but here's a 5 minute introduction on what it does. You just found out what it really does. It also talks more than your goddamn GPS and makes a bloody mess of everything.

This is the future, so criminals are quickly labeled by electronic devices. We blindly trust them anyway.

I just realized that in the opening, mr. cool guy couldn't pull the trigger the first time he tried to shoot at the one he was fighting, but when tohws rolled out of the tower mr. cool guy was able to kill him.
Maybe it was the head piece that protected him from sending signals or something.

Her eyes are weird as hell.
Also, she is so clueless about what she is supposed to do, it feels like the police department took some random college girl, gave her a 10-min explanation of what means to be a policemen, along with a gun that explodes people and then said "now you go girl and be a hero"

Ok I like the show though the character designs are not my favourite and the setting is generic near future cyberpunk but its well done. It will be interesting to see where it goes since it is 22 episodes.

I like the designs. I'm a huge sucker for Yamada eyes (I was long before Yamada happened) and I kinda dig her hair style, you rarely see anime heroines with hair this short.

The show is somewhat disappointing so far. Just like I thought after reading the plot summary it's a blatant ripoff of Minority Report (I have only seen the movie mind you). Not bad but kinda boring. It's interesting how they started questioning the system in the very first ep, usually it takes a while and I hear this is supposed to be 22 eps.

What disappointed me a lot more however was - oh the irony - the voice cast. Now don't get me wrong, the cast is great and there's no doubt about it. Actually, it's the main (I mean it) reason why I even picked it up. But let me get this straight: you've got Sawashiro Miyuki, Itou Shizuka, Sakurai Takahrio, Seki Tomokazu and Ishida Akira and instead of giving them some lines you expect me to listen to Hanazawa every week? Are they serious?

I get where you're coming from with the VA cast. I like Kana and all, but I don't get why anyone would want her in this particular anime. Especially as one of the main characters.

Even though I saw lots of opinions about how similar this is to GitS I didn't really see that before but this week's ep went full GitS. But that worries me more than anything. They start off with some meaty content right off the bat then throw in an episode like this. You're either trying to be plot focused or episodic, you can't really do both.

Also I have to voice my complaints about the protag again, I wish she had less 'am I kawaii uguu~' moments (pic untrelated) and less HanaKana. Seriously they should completely swap the protag with Shizuka Itou's character and the show would improve at least ~20%.

>Seriously they should completely swap the protag with Shizuka Itou's character and the show would improve at least ~20%.

Akane might not be the best protag but switching to Yayoi wouldn't improve it in the least. If anything they could focus more on Kougami but I think it's fine as it is for now.

The fact that she has some - no matter how few of them are there - bothers me. I wish she had about as many as Motoko.
To think I used to complain about how they tried to shove Motoko's boobs in everybody's faces... Seems pretty hilarious when you look at it from this perspective. I mean come on, they managed to squeeze a HanaKana character into this kind of a show. The industry is kinda amazing in it's own right nowadays.

>>12179

Sure doesn't look that way so far, at least not to me. I guess it still has a chance to improve but...

I fucking knew they'd use Ode to Joy. Just had a gut feeling.

What was Makashima planning to do with Yuuki if Akane wouldn't have shown up? 'Get up missy, I have to take you to the next room for plot-related purposes'.

Still, not a bad show, despite the bad start.
>> No. 12898 [Edit]

Makishima wasn't waiting for Akane at that location - he was escaping with the hostage when Akane walked in on him. After Akane's act was over, he presumably just continued walking down the escape route he was traversing when Akane jumped on him. If Akane hadn't arrived, he'd just have escaped without delay and perhaps kept the hostage around for another ploy. Or he could've just let her go after escaping, given that he seems to have no problems whatsoever with witnesses.

This series is good for it's grotesque/macabre moments, if nothing else. Like the one from this ep where that girl was beaten to death and nobody gave a shit - I bet they must've thought something like 'well, it's understandable if the soup was too salty' or something.

The new OP sucks (the actual song I mean, no problems whatsoever with the art direction) but I kinda like the bassline.

I'm happy that this show isn't afraid to go places, there's way too much hand holding and safe, unambitious bullshit in a lot of anime and it's becoming a chore to sit through. I hope The Urobutcher can make the magic happen again.
>> No. 13935 [Edit]
I don't like the latest developments in the show too much. The whole freedom of choice versus Sibyl's all-knowing authority theme is watered down with massive unnecessary flaws in the Sibyl System right from EP1 and culminating in the massive flaws exposed with the helmets. Having all enforcement of order rely only on Psycho-Pass scans is stupid and not necessary for an authoritarian Sibyl-guided society. With the advanced technology of the setting, you could monitor external behavior in addition mental states with the probes that are everywhere. Compared to the mental state monitoring Sibyl does, monitoring life signs, injuries being inflicted, tagged property being stolen, and most externally visible suspicious or criminal activities should be child's play. With more thorough data collection not limited to just Psycho-Pass scans, Sibyl System assisted by a department of humans sitting in front of screens would avoid most of the glaring flaws demonstrated in the show.

The setting is just written to be so unrealistically flawed and easy to break that watching the narrative rip on its numerous problems constantly is not very intriguing to watch. With how utterly shit the Sibyl System is, the freedom of choice vs daddy knows better theme of the show is reduced to a cheap strawman being ripped apart at every chance.

+1, Shougo is a total badass. I mean, his ideals (qustion everything, think for yourself) were infinitely more appealing than the Bureau's (being a tool is fine) in the first place but he keeps growing on me.

Unforunately my concerns from like literally ep 1 (>>12095) were confirmed and Sybilla is some collective conciousness bullshit rather than a machine or something of divine origins (hoped for that because of the name). I totally saw it coming since Japan is totally obsessed with this theme. A huge disappointment as far as I'm concerned. If there were like 10 eps left I would seriously consider dropping this but now that I've been following it for 5 months and there are only 5 left I bet I'll end up downloading another ep next week.

Akane and Kougami's long-winded conversation when they were chasing Makishima was massively out of place. The whole episode was really anticlimactic, and cutting the OP right in the middle of the fight borked its pacing a good bit. Much worse than the previous big climax in the series, the Sibyl Tower raid. Overall, with the sloppy writing taking a nosedive around 2/3rds through and diving deep into retardation for the last few episodes, I have to give this show All Of Urobuchi's Shortcomings Concentrated out of 6.
