Dog days season two!
(in japan, an apostrophe means it's a second season)

Thoughts, comments, options, or views on the anime?

I like how the childhood friend is hopefully going to be more than a side character this time around.

hopefully there will be more revealed about the nine tailed fox's demon hunting and doing more than "fighting at 10% because the hero needed a bit of a little extra help" while watching from the sidelines 90% of the time.

Not expecting much aside from mostly naked little girls with shenanigans and sexy mahou circles, at least until the big plot climax that will happen near the end.

Anyone else find the existence of a completely Japanese style city in a fantasy world a bit odd?
>> No. 10915 [Edit]

What's weird with it? I've seen shit like that in tons of RPGs, japanese ones included

Because it's a fantasy word completely separate from our own. It's like finding life on another planet and they all turn out to be exactly like the aztechs, down to the smallest detail, even with the same language.

so what, the messanger dogs and cats they send to the human world were sent hundreds of years ago aswell to meticulously study human society in japan (and European countries during medieval times for that matter) so they could copy it precisely and base their whole world's society around them and stay that way for the next few hundred years without much interest in advancing past it aside from a few select individuals?
yeah not weird.

Oh, sorry, I misinterpreted you. It's just that this sort of thing(and others too) is so common in japanese fantasy scenarios that I stopped caring for how much it doesn't make sense.

I just remebered, in the first season they had a tv thing to spy on the human world, they could have used that to learn about and copy human culture, doesn't explain why they would do that, or why they stopped copying it after a point.

you say that as if the world exists outside of modern japan and ancient china/japan from Japan's perspective as portrayed through any form of their media.

How well is this show doing?

Tbh I think a Vivid anime would be much more entertaining, and would probably sell a lot more.

I would be sincerely surprised if the show isn't selling better than the first season.

Though, it would be nice if every other ep didn't have this episodic filler feel to it. Not that I didn't enjoy the delicious brown cat of ill omen, but still.

as if handwaving the three days of fighting events wasn't enough, what was left of them was shown in either stills or TREMENDOUS QUALITY.

and with the final ep being a merry get-together around a bonfire before they leave, it feels like there is quite a lot that could be done with the massive list of side characters. I wouldn't be surprised for a S3, at any rate.

I tried to watch this, I really did.
However, I just couldn't get into it.

It has some likeable characters, but I think the show could be handled a little better.

I really like the white haired one (Leon iirc), but the series doesn't focus on her enough unfortunately. The blond, ninja fox girl and her swordsman master (can't remember their names right now) were pretty cool but they don't get much focus either.

The princess and the boy MC are okay I guess. They're just kind of boring.

Stuff like this is what I like about this show.

stuff like this, >>11224 is what I dislike about it.

I want to like this series, I mean there's a lot of things about it I like as someone who's really into cute moe things. but the nudity really puts me off. I really like the character designs and really liked the idea of all the combat being in good fun with no one getting hurt, and thought the MC was a fun guy. I loved this at first, right until the point when the MC did the falling boob gag thing and starting blasting off the women's clothing. it just kinda left a bad taste in my mouth since then. but I guess stuff like that is the only thing that would keep most otaku interested in this series. so I try to view it as a necessary tradeoff, and avoid watching when that stuff comes about. I can't help but think this show might had worked better as a kids show, minus the nudity and darker stuff that poped up here and there in the first season of course. but hey, thats just me, I'm sure all the stuff I don't like about the anime is the stuff people here do like about it.

I agree with the sentiment you are making.

If it was going to be a fanservice fighter, it should've gone that route 100%.

if it was going to be a cutesy moe/shenanigans anime, it should've gone that route 100%

if it was going to be a grim fantasy show, it should've gone that route 100%

if it was going to be a kid's magical fantasy show (everybody turning into puffballs, not just the unnamed background chars), it should've gone that route 100%

When you try to do everything, you end up doing nothing.
Everybody who watched it for the main genre they wanted to most, it feels half done in that respect while the other directions the show tried to take at the same time is just salt on the wound. A good bit of focus and a solid direction for the show would've done wonders to make it better, and while S2 is a significant improvement in that department there is still plenty of room for improvement.
>> No. 11475 [Edit]
>>11474

Maybe in S3 they'll finally pick a genre and stick with it.
>> No. 11476 [Edit]
>>11474
yeah, the indecisiveness and lack of direction is what keeps this show in the field of mediocrity with what seems to be few true fans. I can't help but get the impression this show isn't very popular, but also not unpopular. It's like they're playing it as safe as they can by trying to cater to every demographic possible, even though that means alienating some of them. I'm not sure if they'd really be willing to take the risk of commitment.
like you were saying, they have that conflicting battle system, in which unimportant characters turn into cute fluffy anime ball things when they get hurt, but main characters get hurt and messed up, then their cloths fall apart. people into action/combat anime might not like cute/moe stuff or want to see the nudity. people into the cute side of things might not want to see people getting hurt, or the nudity, and people into the nudity might not give a crap about the moe or action.

You can't have cat/dog girls in a show and not sexualize them, it just doesn't work that way.

This is also true, but sexualizing the girls doesn't have to include going out of their way for to-love-ru homage misunderstandings.

Apparently this show did pretty well, I guess spreading itself ridiculously thin actually paid off.
