Does this game sound good for something freely distributed on the internet?

Pic related; by first glance, she looks pretty good to the point that I might buy her figma.

Looking back at my post, her summer coffee special version of her figma looks vastly inferior to her original school uniform figma. She doesn't feel moe enough for my taste.

It might not be as cute, but it still sold very well as it's the only cast off figma to date wish nudity, that I know of.

I'm certain that only (a likely very small) part of the money they make will go to the translators, but I'm guessing that's not what you meant to say.
>> No. 905 [Edit]

Me again. The patch works like a charm. Yeah, some stuff is left untranslated but it hasn't bothered me that much. As a matter of fact, there was one scene where there was a CG but no speech bubble so it was left untranslated... and I understood it all. I never tried to learn a single japanese word so that was kinda wierd. It's scary how much of it is stuck in my head just due to watching anime/palying VNs. Oh well.

And the game itself is really great. It's been a while since I enjoyed a VN this much. I guess I just prefer light-hearted (or rather, totally absurd) stuff like this rather than serious stories when it comes to VNs. It's the exact opposite with books, however - I absolutely hate when author tries to force some kind of humorous, toungue-in-cheek narrative in a book. It just feels wrong for me.

>>221

>So any money made by JAST for the sale of this game goes to the fan translators for Osadai.

As >>225 menotined, you probably meant some, not any. I don't think that's the case. In this kind of situations the translators would usually receive all the money they were offered for their translations at once and that's it. They won't get any % of the royalities from the sales. Of course, I might be wrong but I'm pretty confident about my guess.

>>222

Same here. They did it with pretty much altruistic intentions so it's great to see that their hard work got rewarded and I'm happy for them. I can't believe there are people out there who are bitching about how they 'sold out'. It's ridiculous.

Probably because they did sell out. If anything release the game, since it was already finished, then pick a new game to work on as a commercial release.

Getting to nearly 100% then suddenly saying LOL NOPE, JAST TIEM then making everybody wait for god who knows now. I doubt many people are going to end up buying it.
>> No. 907 [Edit]

Of course this just means we have to wait a little while longer to pirate it.

The translators get paid and we download their translations for free, everybody wins, except for Jast, fuck them.

Is there any hope to see original VN AIR in English?
I've read Clannad and Kanon - and now I can't even watch their anime adaptations... They look like different stories... about your old friends. I hope I could read Maeda's original AIR, not it's adaptation...

VisualArts would target fan translators translating some of their lesser-known works. Not so sure if it's hypocrisy. They didn't target LB or Tomoyo After for C&D. And Kanon and Clannad were untouched by some C&D bullshit. And nobody's working on Kudwafter.

VisualArts tends to be pissed about non-Japanese in general and throws in all kinds of shit to stop piracy, including the new anti-non-Japanese OS Siglus engine for Rewrite. Of course, Key has no say in this and doesn't give out C&Ds.

I guess the main trouble is the lack of interest that translators have for Air, so they tend to pick it up and drop it repeatedly.

is it reasonable to NTR the girl you are interested in
so when you do play her route you feel a lot better about it?
I've never cared for playing eroges put I suppose now is a good time to start since anime and computer games don't bring the joy they use to.

so is it a reasonable way of going about it?

That's what I've been doing when I first began playing them but after ending up with the girl I liked the least time and time again I sort of gave up on that. Now I'm trying to maitain some sort of balance and play as if I were the MC (although not always) BUT I make some exceptions when it comes to picking the heroines.

This is pretty much off topic but even though I'm always attracted to ara ara well-mannered ojou-samas is anime and manga I tend to pick all sorts of different character types on my first playthrough in VNs (including tsunderes and genki girls who I usually dislike).

>>131

>I like to get into it and actually portray myself as the MC.

I sometimes like to do that, too, but I prefer VNs where MC is a 'real' person. Bonus points for face (well, this faceless MC thing is pretty stupid either way) and voice acting.

Oh, and I found the way sex was portrayed in YMK very off-putting (I dropped it solely because of this).

Is there any confirmation of the characters' ages in Higurashi?

Based on the setting and everything it seems to imply that they're all elementary schoolers, but the chest tumors on Mion/Shion are a bit large for that young.

I guess that wouldn't be completely out of the question for anime style character design though.
>> No. 852 [Edit]
>>150

Mion/shion are the oldest of them. I'm guessing 18 since the year after Higurashi they graduate.
I think K1 is 17, since after they left, he becomes the oldest guy in school.

Rena is probably 16, but Rika and Sakoto are much younger. Probably 11-12 years old?
>> No. 853 [Edit]
>>151
About right. I think Satoko is supposed to be a couple of years older than Rika though, who's probably 9-10

The confusing thing is their all going to the same class. I don't think that would work too well, even with Ciel as your teacher.
>> No. 854 [Edit]
>>152
Well, the older students were supposed to also act as teachers to some extent. That's why they showed the class having joint study time all the time.

Which VNs have you read that featured an otaku / social anxiety type character, and how do you feel about the way they were represented? Do you tend to find yourself sympathising with these charactes, or do they annoy you?

Takuma in Swan Song gets arguably the most character development of the cast, and the way he changes over time seems to always be on the borderline between making you hate or pity him. The chapters from his perspective were also tragically realistic, which makes me wonder whether one of the scenario writers for Swan Song had been trapped within that particular lifestyle in the past, or had done research into it. The part where he was remembering being reluctant to reach out a hand to a fallen girl on the street because he thought she'd be repulsed at being offered help from such a creep is one of the most memorable scenes from the VN for me.

Takumi was just as great in the visual novel and since he's the narrator most of the time, you can also read his thoughts. The writers must have done quite a bit of research into otaku/hikikomori/anxiety disorders because I have never sympathized with a character more than him.

I noticed Takuma still had anxiety problems even after becoming a necrophiliac rapist lolo

I'm really looking forward to reading Chaos;Head. Won't be for a bit, though, because G-Senjou no Maou and Umineko episode 7 translation patches will be out soon.

I'd never thought of it that way before, but it's an excellent point. I found myself identifying with the protagonist because of having suffered olfactory hallucinations whenever I left the house for a period in the past, but hadn't thought to interpret his disgust in a less literal sense.

>>103
I'd strongly suggest reading it when you get the chance. I tried to watch the anime after finishing the VN in order to see the action scenes near the end animated, but wasn't able to put up with how much more confident he seemed in posture and mannerisms than his descriptions in the novel version. Standing upright and looking people in the eye, where I'd always imagined him to be a curled up quivering mess, avoiding looking at other people at all costs, like myself. I do agree that he's the character I've most identified with, Shinji in Evangelion probably coming second.
>> No. 850 [Edit]
I thought that they were trying too hard with Takumi from Chaos;Head. I AM THE TOP-LEVEL PLAYER ON THIS MMO, MOST POPULAR EVER AND I HAVE OVER 100 WAIFUS. It just felt like I was being pandered to.

The rest of it is done well, though; him being lost in his thoughts so much, being anxious, etc.

This is the most overrated shit ever, /vn/. The characters are good and it has a few neat concepts, but what the fuck? They spend the whole VN discussing obscure magical rules that Nasu used to piece together the game in lieu of an actual story.

>This is the most overrated shit ever, /vn/.
The main problem is how people expect action to some kind of main element of it, and ironically it's not.
These kinds of people expect(ed) something more in line of Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night however, was never about that sort of thing.

Both of them comes with the premise of a "magical war with spirits of heroes of the past duking it out!", but the difference here is how Fate/Zero actually is more or less about what's mentioned above, wheras Fate/Stay Night is about how what's mentioned above affects everyone, and how the secrets and true nature of the "war" alters everyones correlation to it.

There is also thing about how Fate/Stay Nights war started prematurely, and how more or less all the capable adults died in the previous war.

But Fate/Stay Night isn't really overrated if you haven't been fooled into believing it's something it's not.
It doesn't live up as an action novel, because it kind of isn't one to begin with.
It is however a rather good novel about mental conflicts and convictions.
This however does make it into a rather nice adventure novel, but adventure does not equal action by a long shot, even though it's usually a part of the adventure somewhere or at several places. But even if that is the case, Adventure novels and Action novels are fundamentally different and focuses on different themes.

And yes, personally I would say that the characters of Fate/Stay Night are rather good, but another noteworthy thing about them is Shirou himself, the protagonist.
"Shirou's" archtype, while not exactly uncommon, it's really unusual for authors to take it as far as Nasu did with Shirou, and with correlation with Archer, that portrays their character even further in even more lights and perspectives, and that is kind of neat.

It's really polished and it has a lot of detail. You can really feel that a lot of effort has been put into the game and that the story is really well thought through.

But I really dislike the game. I personally always had difficulties with suspension of disbelief and the dramatic moments are way too exaggerated. And the drawing quality is really an eyesore. My god, learn to draw. Look at the Shirou. I mean, come on...

I find the magic and mythology content unbearable but at an younger age I can totally see myself get lost in it. The background is rich and it's simply well made. And the game is HUGE. I respect that and I can see the appeal in it.
>> No. 839 [Edit]
Well it is definitely overrated but most introductory VNs are. I think there aren't that many people on /vn/ that have played more than several VNs anyway but still it wasn't THAT bad.
It was just pretty repetitive and in general wasn't worth the length.

Hell, I liked it. It was my second VN, though, and after Tsukihime (which I liked better actually.) The characters, music and atmosphere in general were enough to make up for the shortcomings.

i'm curious: what's your average download speed rate, for torrents from places like hongfire and piratebay?
mine was normally around 50 KB/s, at its best; recently i changed my service up to 5 MB/s and the one in the picture is the fastest i've ever got.
>> No. 824 [Edit]
Torrent download speeds are determined by a number of factors, so it's hard to really give a general number for every download. Usually, public places like Hongfire/thepiratebay don't have well-seeded torrents (not always the case), and the few people that do seed tend to have slow upload speeds.

More seeds means more seeds that you can connect to, which equals quicker downloads. Less seeds means less seeds that you can connect to, which equals slower downloads. Slower/quicker speeds depending on the available number of seeds is not the sole factor in download speeds, though. Leeches (the people that are also downloading the same file as you) also play a factor in this, as they're consuming bandwidth from the available seeds. Leeches can also upload (just like seeds) to other available leeches at the same time, though, if they've already downloaded part of the file that other leeches still need. Another thing to consider is that leeches and seeds can toggle the amount of bandwidth they want to spend on uploading (or downloading). So, you can cap your upload speed at 20 kb/s if you really wanted to, even if you could upload at much quicker rates.

The most important thing to consider is your ISP's connection plan's speed, and the seeds/leeches' respective ISP connection plan's speeds.

That's just my experience, though. Sometimes you'll get 80-100 kb/s or higher download speeds from just a single seed, if there are no (or few other) leeches.
