One of the things I think I've realized about dreams is that I think my "inner dialogue" or what I think of as the rational part of my mind, isn't there in dreamland. Every time I remember dreaming "oh wait this isn't real, its just a dream" I either wake up or the dream shifts so radically as to be unrecognizable from the previous scenario, like someone changed the channel.
I don't know if this is accurate for everyone or if it means anything if its true for the general poplace.
