Just thought I'd share this here

I'm working on a new series "Hirameki Hatsume-chan" or "Hatsume Invention" by Daioki
It's a 4koma about an inventor and his genius daughter (more about the daughter), pretty light read.
Not sure how regularly I'll be releasing, but will try to as often as I can.

The first chapter is available here:

Hope you enjoy

Really cute SoL 4koma about a girl who ends up as a NEET, and her efforts to find employment.

The latest chapter 11 was an enjoyable read. The introduction of the new coworker character really let me look at my own personality, which is similar to his, from the perspective of another. It was really interesting, and made me feel a bit bad for the random people who rarely try to talk with me.

That aside, her mother is really endearing herself to me. Her carefree attitude as a housewife really shine in moments, and yet the author doesn't let that one trait define her entire personality as some other manga would.

I'm really wishing to see the father/husband now, though, especially since the author seems to not have anything against introducing new characters after ten chapters.

I want to see how her dad is like.

I like this and relate to it, but the attempt at making it "hot-blooded" (third panel) is awkward.

Take it easy, NEETan!

I too found that bit somewhat awkward.

I'm pretty sure that last year, during Christmastime, I shared this manga with /a/. I don't really remember if it was in fact, Christmastime or Valentine's Day. I don't really think it matters, because I'm going to share it anyway. This is, personally, my favorite release by my favorite manga author. Inio is one of the few manga artists who I actually find myself identifying with because of deep, resonating themes, instead of the personality-less self-insert character that many Japanese VN and manga authors turn to using. Anyway, here is one of his anthologies, "Before Dawn and the End of the World":

In addition to that, Inio did quite a few manga that seem to be favorites around these parts. Goodnight PunPun and Solanin were by him, along with a handful of obscure one-shots. He also did the incomprehensible Nijigahara Holograph.

Personally for me, this manga was kind of a mixed bag. There were a couple stories that I really disliked (such as the last chapter, thank god Kotonoha released that chapter first. I'd have been bummed out to read that as the end to this collection) but on the whole, most stories managed to successfully pull off being poignant so I still thought it was a great read.

Out of all the chapters, I absolutely loved the one about A-ko the shopkeep at the train station. Inio managed to make that one cute and melancholic without going down too much into the grimdark end with a lot of deep moody monologues that he sometimes tends to do (which I'm not the biggest fan of). The best part is that it was less than 20 pages and everything felt so tight, not a single panel felt unneccessary or wasted.

Which chapters did you particularly like?
>> No. 187 [Edit]
Three chapters in particular stood out for me. "17", "Tokyo" and "The End of the World". I don't know what it is about them.

I guess I like 17 because I really relate with the story. Tokyo, more or less for the same reason, except 17 doesn't really get that 'aimlessness' that makes Tokyo great. And I love The End of the World because it captures the vigor of youth (that I never had).

I must say that I didn't get his motivation. Killing the world's most powerful vampire proves your identity as a robot how?

I finished reading the series a while ago so I don't exactly remember, but I believe the point was that he had no 'motivation' behind it really. He was just trolling everyone as in the end he was the only one that really 'won' in the brutal war.
>> No. 114 [Edit]
A fight is absolutely thrilling. If you've never been in one, you can't readily sympathise with his motivation. Instead, you will rationalise it by saying he was insane (which he was) or he was trolling.

God, I love Hirano's artstyle so much. I only wish he wasn't such a lazy bastard. I only pray that he doesn't give up on Drifters because things are getting pretty interesting.
>> No. 116 [Edit]
This guy has summed it up perfectly.

Yeah, I think his art is great. A pity he's too busy fapping to his own characters to finish his remaining series.

Help me pick a new read. I'm thinking one of those "the manga was better" series would be good.

The "arguably better" stuff where anon doesn't always agree is fine. Might even be better.

Maybe I should've mentioned that I'm likely to watch their anime anyway, I just prefer ordering it M->A. I get poor results when I try to milk a series A->M, it feels forced. M->A feels smoother. I imagine my thinking so far is not uncommon.

Conclusion: I want to avoid watching "scroll was better" series so as to avoid ruining the manga for me. Manga will be more complete and came first anyway.

All suggestions notepad'd.

Anime wasn't the letdown I expected. I started a detailed log of Naru's assaults halfway through; ep17 and up (+specs/Again) always remembered to have one, I assume the same for 1-16.

Dibs on imouto.

Are you still having fun reading Negima Negi? Lately it's been kind of a chore for me, but then again I'm not caught up to the latest chapter.

You should read Angel Densetsu. The artstyle is a bit hard to get used to for some people, but it is really heartwarming.

I found this to be very overrated and boring at times.
>> No. 3 [Edit]
You know, I really don't like the word "overrated" being used to describe something because you never know just how much praise someone heard from others about a particular work.

But in any case, I do agree with you that it was a little boring at times. I remember being put off by the boring dialogue, compounded only by some grammatical mistakes that the scanlation group made.

I think a more enjoyable post-apocalyptic manga is Drifting Classroom by Umezu. It's more ridiculous than Dragon Head but it's strangely much more entertaining. Perhaps it's because the main characters are children. You should give it a try.

Mahou Sensei Negima thread for the first post!

Negima is a manga about a 10 year old mage who goes to an all girls school to teach. His job is part of his training after graduation, so he can't blow this. The manga has been described as "Harry Potter and Love Hina" by some. It has now encompassed shounen and a great many other genres.
